Could Lacrosse fill this void?

What do you think west coasters? Could lacrosse fill this void? Could the sport be a rallying point for a university over time at some of these smaller universities?

Unfortunately, Title IX is still the main obstacle. Who knew those schools also had to worry about the settlement between the Cal State Univ system and NOW.

Lacrosse is not going to take off because these schools will not have the resources to fully fund both, and I must think most are hanging on to their equality status.

Gotta love the liberal agenda. Go Dems!!!!

Flamin' liberals! Imagine supporting "relatively" equal opportunities for female athletes in college - the be-atches don't even play football!
Next thing you know the Dems will be wanting to give them the right to vote.
Excuse me while I go jerk...my knee.

I'm currently a student at a certain Cal State University.. and there is a big movement by an alumni trying to bring the football team back. Well needless to say I dont think its such a great idea because it will take a long time before they can compete with schools like SC and UCLA in California alone, lets not even mention schools like ohio st. and florida schools...In addition I dont feel the demand for the team is that high by the student body seeing that commuter schools will never have a USC or UCLA feel to them. I think alot of this is driven by alumni and their own agenda rather than the students themselves. I sincerely hope that the sport landscape changes and the demand for lacrosse increases. I think that once the generation that is in middle school or early high school at this time get to college is when the AD's and schools out here will see things better. guess which cal state i go to? haha

Wow, that was a very informative article that touched a topic that I am interested in.

Anyways, is it CSUN, Long Beach State or CSUF? Maybe i', missing something here! haha

Another problem (hurdle) at these schools is BIG WEST big time baseball programs. The baseball games are probably the highest attended sport at each school.

^^^ the fencing cut does seem odd, but it's probably just because of budget pressures and campus politics. I doubt any large groups of students or alumni would be especially upset about this move.

I think lacrosse already fosters school spirit at some schools. The main problem I would see for CSUs and other colleges in California is that there are almost no good rivalries between schools that exist off the field. For example at Oxy, our lacrosse rivals are Biola, but almost 100% of our students don't know where that school is, or even know anyone who goes there. Our school has one historical rival, and you have to be well versed in school history to know it.

Well our big, formal rival is Pomona, but Whittier probably should be in their too.
