I read somewhere that the Big East lacrosse conference is a done deal. I don't recall a mention of the teams but presumably we are talking Cuse, GTown, Villanofun, Providence, Notre Dame (maybe), St. Johns, anyone else I'm forgetting?

The strange thing about South Florida lacrosse is that the coaches and players have not made the discussion about going DI a theme for their program but school officials have discussed it numerous times. If the Big East forms a lacrosse league then the basketball, football and other rivalries will spill over making lacrosse a wise move for athletic departments.

Interesting how most would have said the ACC would be the conference to grow lacrosse with BC, NC St, FSU, Va Tech etc all prime candidates for a varsity program.

If the rumors about the Big East are true lets take a look at the member schools and what lacrosse would be like.

Cincinnatti - Varsity Women's, mens club
UCONN - Club mens and womens
Depaul - Club mens and womens
Notre Dame - Varsity mens and womens * Top 10 DI
Louisville - Club mens and womens
Marquette - club mens and womens
Providence - Varsity mens and womens * looking for success of old
Rutgers - Varsity mens and womens * Top 25 DI
Georgetown - Varsity Mens and womens * Top 10 DI
Pitt - club mens and womens
Seton Hall - Club mens and womens
St John’s - Varsity Mens and womens * Building program
Villanova - Varsity mens and womens
South Florida - Club mens and womens
Syracuse - Varsity mens and womens * National Champions DI
Villanova - Varsity mens and womens * looking for success of old
West Virginia - club mens and womens

I do not believe the ACC cares to get anymore teams. It is not like they need an automatic qualifier. If anything any new team that would be brought into the ACC would get embarassed for a good amount of years, then the school would question themselves for even having the team. And congrats to the kid from Bishop Moore getting D-3 All-American.

Have Villanova and PC agreed to fully fund their lacrosse programs (i.e. 12.6 schollies)? I was under the impression that was one of the sticking points.

ACC certainly doesn't need more teams AQ-wise. I wonder how BC would have done if they had kept their team varsity.

Any ACC school adding a new sport isn't going to do it half-way. They're in one of the premier athletic conferences in the nation and are going to put a lot of effort when adding sports that have exposure, like lacrosse is gaining & will have years down the road when ACC teams are added. Combine that support with the limited growth at the D1 level and you'll have kids clamoring to play. A team might suffer for a couple of years, but I would be willing to bet that within 4 years any new ACC team will be towards the top of the heap nationally, even the smaller or technical schools like Wake Forest or Georgia Tech.
