LSA MCLA All America Awards

Postby CP18 on Mon May 19, 2008 8:46 am

It is our duty and responsibility however to do just that. As a coach I am shocked and a much more ashamed that we do not have 100% submission for all these items. I am not saying I have all the time in the world to report these things but I will take every possible effort to do it myself. I will not pawn it down to players or leadership members of the the team to fill out that information.

I would hope that this issue comes up again at our annual meeting as I am sure it does every year, but this time we add some backing to the penalties.

TCUCoach is correct.

In my opinion, when asked who are the All-Americans out of the LSA the response should be, "the best players" not "who had the most points."

Now, many a time the best player in the league has a ton of points, aka my former teammate Jason Dunn. A measure of an All-American is a player that any coach from any league would want on his team, and would start, in a heartbeat. Dunn was that kind of player, any coach would take him and start him at attack during his four years of playing.

Now, what about a great player who plays for an LSA team that is a ball control team on offense, therefore he may not put up the huge numbers? This is where the coaches need to step up, evaluate the best talent in the league, and get those guys recognized.

Second, we can't forget defensive players. I would argue that some of the best players in the LSA (guys that would start at Michigan, Chapman, etc) were poles this year................

Something to think about.............

if youre good enough for an award, people will notice on their own. there's no need for politicking on these messages boards to get noticed, whether its yourself or your teammate doing the politicking.

The best D-man to play in the LSA barely knew this board existed and was AA several times. Mark Lamb, anyone?
peace.

I know what you mean, and I've disagreed with that in the past but this is the first time I've voiced my dissent. Everyone knows of www.mcla.us (or they should...) and you can easily view statistics from every game. If you don't see a player in person you can at least view his statistical performance in the games that matter against the more difficult opponents.

He had a great performance vs. OSU, I'm just saying it's not all america worthy that's all.

3rd team all LSA to 3rd team All America is a big jump. The whole point of my argument is to get the people in charge of this sort of thing to start acting more responsibly for their positions and doing some actual research to at least confer all america awards on the people who were up for all america consideration (and I don't think anyone would argue that THAT is too much work). I would love for conference awards to warrant such background research as well, but I understand the difficulty because of a lack of submissions by teams although the fact that it doesn't happen is still ridiculous IMO.

Anyhow, it's none of my business except that when I'm working in the offseason setting goals like "I want to be All Conference and All America" I want it to mean something, because when those in charge don't take the time to do their research, it doesn't.

suggestion: score 17 points in a game against an over matched opponent...

hey swampthing,

by "researching" do you mean evaluating a players performance in big/OOC games?

if so, there are some issues involved with that too.

1.) not every team will always agree to play you.
2.) travel costs may not always be there to go play those OOC teams

a good player may only have what some considered a lesser opponent to show what hes got ya know?

I would never forget watching Mark Lamb play D especially that frigid night against the Florida Gators.

Yeah and that's perfectly fine, it's all normalized anyways. The best games that the player plays in (playoff teams for conference awards, top ranked games for AA) should be evaluated. Of course, if player A scores 4 points against BYU and player B scores 4 points vs. Deepark Middle School, player A's performance is obviously going to garner more respect.

Yeah, but he had better be consistent, because under his control or not -- the system is justified in not rewarding him for slipping up under worse opponents. Wolf's three greatest opponents are: ASU, aTm, and UT. Johnson's three greatest are: LU, LMU, aTm. Johnson had 17 (5.67ppg) and Wolf had 4 (1.33ppg). Even though I'll never forgive him for doing the swim celebration (jk) Johnson was totally given the shaft for being a Freshman (or just a lack of real effort or "research" on the part of those voting).

... and sorry dusty I don't know what a dpole has to do to be noticed

ill take wolf, because hes a feeding attackman. as a shooter i would pick someone that can feed it to me ha ha. plus being a plano kid, the only jesuit players i would want to play with are mike weaver and craig nolan.

Sorry, nybuilt but clayton picked so I will pick as well.

I pick Phillip. I pick him any day over any player in the LSA. He is talented and meshes well with anyone he plays with.

Phillip Johnson will be a name coaches will have to worry about next season.

After I answered your above question, NYBuilt, I thought of a question of my own.

How can you even compare Johnson and Wolf anyway? Johnson didn't play against OSU, he got lost in Norman on his way to Stillwater.

Personally I think Johnson would have had a 25 point day (24g 1a to Me, PJ has always been about trying to help my totals whenever he can) if he had played.

he played against LSU and Tulane, plus pj and wolf were dead even in goals and assists in their head to head match up at the end of the season, 3 and 1, so i guess you could say its a toss up. pj is a great player but its his first season in the MCLA, he will get his recognition trust me.
