That really is a long weekend. I'll probably head over to Pullman to catch the Saturday game.

My Picks
Southern Oregon vs. Western Washington: WWU wins this slug fest 14-9. There are not many places I hate to play, WWU is one of them. Very tough place to play!!
Whitman vs. Central Washington: CWU wins this game 10-8. In my opinion game of the week material!! Good luck to both teams!! The Wildcats wins this close game, but not by much.
OSU over WSU 20 to 12
SFU over Gon 21 to 11
BYO over OU - hate to say it! GO DUCKS 11-10
Montana over Montana State - go Griz 13-9
OSU over BSU 15-13
Great weekend of lacrosse, wish all these games would be closer to Tacoma.

Here’s a little preview on some of the big games this weekend:
#6 SOU at #3 WWU:
While a betting man would say that Southern has no chance of winning this game, I just want everyone to think back to last year when an undersized Southern Oregon team traveled to play Western Oregon and won as the #6 seed. This year looks to be awfully similar. I just don’t know if Southern has any left in the tank with all 5 of their losses coming to playoff teams. Western Washington has looked very strong as of late with their only two losses coming to Western Oregon and UPS. In the last game WWU won by 10, I see a little closer in this one but not by much.
#5 WC at #4 CWU:
Central squeezed one out past the Missionaries in their last meeting 11-10, however Central Washington will have the home field advantage this time. This game comes down to one thing, and it is possession time. If Kim and Lee can control the game than Whitman can pull the win out. I think CWU has too much talent of offense and defense to let this game slip away. Another tight game in Ellensburg.
OSU at BSU:
While this game may look like there is no playoff implications, pending an upset in Pullman this game controls the match ups in the Division 1 playoffs. Key matchup in this game is senior Bargholz for BSU and Azevedo for OSU. This will be the last game for both of them and I have a feeling one of the two is going to go out with a bang. This game is a real toss up, but I am giving OSU the benefit of the doubt.

You're forgetting seniors Tony Day and Cody Nichols.. both are looking to make a final statement after missing last weekend's games. Not to mention graduating 3rd year player Matt Thomson, who has earned a long pole defender from every team over the last half of the season. I can't wait to see Bargholz and company unload against OSU. Azevdeo is a stud, and this promises to be a big game, especially after last year's 1 goal victory by BSU.

Good luck SOU, WWU is a very tough place to play, but it's the playoffs so you never know. WWU seems to be hitting their stride and adjusting to their graduation, and they always play well on the turf (I still remember losing to them when I was at OSU in 2002) They had a player who used low top converse allstars on that turf and moved like a gazelle. As far as being the #6 seed last year that was a little funky since we had already beaten WOU earlier in the season and played similar teams a lot closer than they did (see Montana).....the one major difference was that we lost 5 players between our first match up, one of them being my linemate Jamison Whitehead, so from that aspect I could see how we were the underdog since Jamison still ended up being the leading scorer despite only playing the first half of the season. Regardless WOU has obviously grown into themselves since then and have been able to kill it this season, pretty much running the table except their slip up VS CWU so I am not knocking on them. That was last year and this is now, I just wanted to clarify that we were not the underdog last year against them and am still not sure how the seedings panned out the way the did last year. Good luck to all the teams and hopefully we can represent the PNCLL well in Dallas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whitman over Central 14-13 in OT.
We dominated the game all the way until the 6 min mark. Whitman overcame a five goal deficit to send it in to OT where they eventually took the game. Although we were a better team, we were out-coached again today. Hats off to Whitman, good luck next round.

Whitman over CWU 14-13 in overtime.
Official
Hell of a game, CWU was up 7-3 at half, and 12-7 at one point I believe. Face offs were relatively even. Centrals defense was tenacious, but our offense had a long drought due to certain reasons which attributed to our demise. Overall a true dogfight that could have gone either way. Whitman scored about 4 minutes into overtime, but before that their goalie made some key saves to get them the ball on offense. Hats off to Jordan Yergler (CWU Goalie) and Jim Slowey for his last college lacrosse game. CWU will be back next year with a vengeance, so watch out.
Hats off to Whitman, get some in Montana, I wish it was CWU going to Montana though.

Schmitz is a great coach, no doubt, but to say that you were the "better team" when you lost reeks of poor sportsmanship. I can understand if you and your teammates are disappointed and felt that you deserved to win, but at least have some class when you are on a public forum. Graciousness in the eye of defeat is a virtue, after all.
On a more positive note, congratulations to Whitman on the win. I have no doubt that this game will go down as one of the more memorable playoff games in which Whitman has had the pleasure of participating over the years. It should be interesting to see how the squad bounces back against WOU. Good luck next weekend.

I'll forgive you because you obviously started writing before you finished reading the whole comment, because afterwards I stated hat's off to Whitman, good luck next round. Actually you may be right that does sound like a comment "reeking of poor sportsmanship". Next time I guess I'll have to hire you as my editor, hows about 50 cents a comment???
Once again hat's off to Whitman for fighting till the end.

actually a couple of WOU's guys were at this game and i got a phone call after the 3rd quarter and a direct quote from that conversation said "central has this game well in hand. there is no way that whitman will win this game." followed at the end of the game with a call telling me that Whitman had forced an overtime and Kim had scored the game winner. From everything I heard Central was the better team for almost 60 minutes. I think that Hodgee's statement was more complimentary than anything else. It sounds like Whitman rallied under their coaches and just willed themselves to win this game.
p.s. There is still no guarantee that we will be playing Whitman. If SOU beats WWU then we will play them and we would not see Whitman until possibly the Conference championship.

#1 WOU v. #5 Whitman
#2 UPS v. #3 WWU

22-10 OSU over WSU (unofficial)
The Cougs were able to put some nice goals together. Hopefully they can continue to build and get more kids out next year. They are heading in the right direction.
