The graduate student eligibility rule in the WCLL for the 2008 season that applies to this discussion is;"
graduate students may play for only one year, if they are eligible under ‘a’ and ‘c’ above and earned their undergraduate degree at a non-NCAA school."
While you might think it is bizarre that the conferences can make their own rules regarding eligibility, that is the way it is, the conferences can be more restrictive but not less restrictive than the MCLA rules.
