Why are the FLA h.s. tournament games called "play-in" games?

that article was the first time i heard it referred to that way....there are 12 FHSAA districts, from a random draw 4 districts get a bye after the district championships.

the remaining 8 are:

Nease (Ponte Verde) vs. Bolles (jacksonville)
St. Thomas Aquinas (coral gables?) vs. St. Andrews (boca raton)
Bishop Moore (orlando) vs. Winter Park
Lake Brantley (Altamonte Springs) vs. Winter Springs

I believe the USL club playoffs have started, they wrap up a week after the FHSAA playoffs, i have no idea on those...but there are 50+ teams involved in that...

Nice work Danny. I guess the BMoore players only selectively listen to you. Good luck on Friday.

Does anyone know whats going on with the public school league? How is my alma mater and defending state champ Douglas doing? I hope everyone is fully integrated soon, its kind if ridiculous.

all the "school" teams play in the FHSAA....Douglas is in the club league....their playoffs are about a week behind the FHSAA playoffs....i believe they are still doing very well....Terry Crowley is HC and former Gator Chris Moyer is assitant. Douglas is currently 13-1

as far as "integration" it is up to the 58 club teams to become full on varsity "school teams". A few make the jump each year (St. Thomas Aquinas was club last year).

I want to see everyone playing for 1 championship too.

Thanks, Danny. Are there a lot of crossover games between the club teams and the fully sanctioned schools? It would be a shame if Douglas couldnt play St Thomas and its biggest rival from back in the Coral Springs club team days, St Andrews.

there are none, FHSAA teams are not allowed to play club teams, and "school" teams haven't played club teams since about the time we were in HS.

therefore hard to gauge of exactly how good the club teams are....i would guess the best ones could compete with the top 5-15 FHSAA teams, the top 5-6 teams in the state being out of their reach (LB, WP, SA, GP, Nease, LHP)

Is it an individual school's decision to go varsity (i.e. FHSAA)? or is that decision made out the county school board level?

Sonny, I think the county sanctions it first and then it is up to the individual school. But i've been out of FL for some time so things might have changed.
