Bringing back an old Argument

How about a return to the old SWLA? Southwest Lacrosse Association.
The LSA name was created to differentiate the teams that played under the USILA, USLIA, now USLMDIA criteria from teams in the SWLA that didn't.

Since by my read all the teams in the SWLA/LSA fall into this category, you could return to that name for those into the retro theme.

Hmmm.. about Grant's post, I don't want to be nit-picky, but Louisiana sort of falls in the South whereas Texas and Oklahoma would be considered Southwest. Yes, that would be debatable. On the other hand, Grant is correct that the teams that are in LSA were in SWLA (Tech, SMU, A&M, Baylor, TCU, Southwestern, Texas State (formerly known as SWT), Rice, Stephen F. Austin).

tlaing ... jokes are funny. I agree with KS(something), we need some input from non-Texas teams. You understand our bias for the great State of Texas, maybe something with slight bias towards the other two states would give us grounds to build from. Ultimately, a compromise could be made.

Allied Texas Louisiana and Oklahoma Conference (ATLOC)

Mid - Southern Lacrosse League (MSLL)

Mid Gulf-Coastern Great Plains Conference (MGGPC)

Sabine and Red River League (SRRL)

Assigning a name, such as Great Rivers (GRLC) or Rocky Mountain (RMLC) simply will not function for the LSA. Texas alone has several regional descriptions and geographical descriptions will appear too defined and cluttered. A new name will certainly be difficult to come by...

This is a pointless argument. It sounds like people are saying stuff to hear their own fingers click against a keyboard. Yes the name implies Texas, but who cares what conference you play for. That is not the name that matters. What matters is the name on the front of your jersey; the school you represent, and the guys you take the field with. That is all that matters. If you guys from non-TX teams want to get the name changed force the issue on the field. Make the conference stand up and notice that a non-TX team is kicking some serious butt (I say butt only to refrain from profanity, which does not make the board gods happy). I mean why should it matter what the conference name is. In my opinion there are far more important issues to be concerned with in this conference than what the name is. On that note congrats to Tech for winning an out of conference game or two. But still the fact of the matter is regardless of that, has anyone in the LSA beat anyone outside of the LSA that matters? I mean I read in another thread about someone saying that Tech felt like they played the top, middle and bottom of the GCLA, he felt it was much like the LSA. So to put it in those terms what do those wins mean? The top has come though (Lindenwood) and beaten every major team in Texas I believe. I think they have made a sweap. To be fair it falls on the whole conferences shoulders, not just Tech, UT, A&M or anyone for that matter. Guys stop worrying about the label. It doesn't matter what the label reads if doesn't have any backing to support it at the "current" moment. Just play ball guys and win some games; and you non-TX guys stop getting so riled up. Plus KS14 is right, all the non-TX teams do is whine about the conference names, but offer no solution. Focus on the important thing, which is winning games and doing your school proud. Worry about catching and throwing, playing defense and scoring goals. If you don't do that the letters mean nothing to anyone. And lastly congrats to all the LSA! teams that won this weekend, and thank God that Tech did some positive out of conference representation. I'm sorry I've gone the long way about it, but really this arguement does not matter at the current time. It is like crying about how your food tastes when you are starving in the desert. What is more important?

When inspiration hits, you shouldn't stifle it with paragraph breaks! But duely noted and I shall try to include them next time.

Uzi:

I don't follow your logic. I was under the impression that on field performance didn't hold any weight when dealing with off-field matters (i.e. scheduling home vs away, league matters, etc...) All teams in this league are dues paying members, so shouldn't all teams have a voice when it comes to league wide issues? If we are a league driven purely by results, we should go ahead and forfeit this years AQ and wait until we consistently perform well against top quality OOC foes, seeing as how those will be the teams in Blaine anyways.

Well said Matt! All teams in the conference have a say in the matter regardless of on field performance. The out of state teams should have an equal say along with the Texas schools.

You definately didn't follow my logic mcshea21, because it appears to me that my entire point went over your head entirely. I never stated that all teams should not have a voice. But if you play well, in conference and out of conference it could help make your voice a little louder. Unfortunately it seems as though you never made it passed the first few lines of my post, that served as minor point leading up to a bigger point. The main point was that this is a small issue in comparision to how the LSA is performing on the field. I have not played lax in quite some time, so I have time watch, comment and observe all I want during non-working hours. The point is that instead of bickering about a conference name that will most likely change with time on the message boards, maybe people should focus on representing they're teams the best they can. Instead of clicking away on a keyboard, maybe some people need to hit the gym, or hit the wall. 8)

UZ: Come on, this is a valid discussion and has no direct link to a league's performance on the field. McShea21 was right on in regards to being a paid league member and having the right to discuss a conference name. If the league decides to host the conference championships in Baton Rouge next year should all the Texas school's forfeit if the La. schools have a down year?

By the way, I have seen McShea21's skills, if he hit the wall or gym anymore he would be getting paid to play :o

The only thing Matt needs to hit is a tanning bed...Whitie's got skills. I agree all members should have equal say whether they finished last in their division or second (Louisiana school did this last year). We all pay and should have the right to be heard!

What about something like the Southern Alliance? That way it stirs conversation to who is included rather than thinking only teams from Texas compete in the LSA, which I embarrassingly admit doing at first.

The majority of posters here are former players, so bashing curent teams is a low blow; no need to rub salt in the wounds of the teams who are struggling. Why don't we compile a list of possibilities and vote on it a la the GRLC? Seemed to work for them.
