Palm Beach Atlantic head coach Chris Southard announced his team’s 2014 season schedule today, featuring six teams ranked in the final 2013 Nike/Inside Lacrosse Division II Coaches Poll.
“Our schedule will prepare us for where we want to be at the end of this season,” said Coach Southard, entering his twelfth season with PBA. “We expect to see some great teams along the way. Our goal is to take it one game at a time and be very prepared for the postseason.”
The Sailfish, who were ranked as highly as No. 6 nationally last season, open the 2014 campaign at home on Wed., Jan. 29 against Florida Atlantic University. Palm Beach Atlantic met the Owls in last year’s opener, winning 16-6, and are 3-0 in the all-time series.
Following an early-season scrimmage against Tampa (NCAA-D2), the ‘Fish are in Gainesville for a game against the University of Florida on Sun., Feb. 9. This early season road test is one of three games against MCLA Division I opponents in 2014.
In the biggest test of February, the Sailfish head to Savannah, Ga. for the RIP10 Tournament. The marquee game of the weekend will pit SCAD, who finished ranked No. 13 last season, against PBA on Sat., Feb. 15. Last year’s 11-9 loss to the Bees was the only blemish for Palm Beach Atlantic in the regular season. On Sunday, PBA will play Emmanuel College, a second-year NAIA program from Franklin Springs, Ga.
