PNCLL Div 2 Playoff Preview

Movin' a Couch wrote:I just want to note the demographics of the playoff teams. 4/6 are state schools. Here are my predictions for the next decade:

1. DII - The private schools won't be able to compete, and the league will be restructured in some way (that could include UPS, Whitman, PLU going the way of Linfield and Lewis and Clark).

2. DI - The sport will keep getting bigger on this coast, and U of O will go varsity first (depending on Nike's mood and commitment to a new sport) and be followed by UDub, OSU, etc.

3. DI - Simon Fraser will have to join the NCAA, which is possible as of 01/08 (and they're already considering it; I looked it up), in order to keep playing league games against somebody.

Who thinks I'm wrong?

UBC will go NCAA before SFU does. There were stirrings of lacrosse starting up there, but with such strong men's league teams and the emphasis on box lacrosse, I don't see it happening. Its also a huge pain to start a program from scratch.

It's not even that they're just starting young... The coaching is getting better out here & we don't get locked inside for 3 months due to snow. If a kid loves lacrosse in SD, he can play 12 months of the year.... That's a slight advantage in my book. As for everything else, who knows... As lacrosse grows, the larger schools will have an advantage. Will can talk about recruiting kids, but I'd love to hear how many recruiting trips to lax hotbeds he's been on. It's club ball, we take what we can get. We spread the word & hope they come... When they get here, we hope the varsity sport they're playing doesn't have rules against them playing lacrosse also...

Actually, I've been on two trips (not school funded, but for visiting family) to Salt Lake and Atlanta. I don't know if Atlanta qualifies as a "hotbed", Salt Lake is certainly one of the Western hotbeds, but I met with an interested student in both cities.

And I count Portland as a hotbed and I go there almost every weekend as it is my hometown and have met with 3 interested students. It's not D1 football recruiting with parties and hot ladies, but it's something. We'll see if anyone shows up come fall....

Hodge, for that, I'm going to run your younger brother tonight... then verbally abuse him.... :D

Most "normal" players growing up (as in pre-college, not living in, on, or within a stones throw of mountain ranges) on the West Coast (notice coast, not other side of the mountains), have an extra three months to play....

And on a side note, if you want those extra three months, I know of a nice little University out here you can transfer to... It even uses the same colors as your current school, plus you could save some money & live at home with your folks!

Talk to you soon Hodge!

Well Kyle I guess you'll have to call my agent, and talk with her.

But on second thought, I think I would rather run through your D than run with them.

Buoy, Give me a call when you get into Missoula. Unfortunately championship weekend is crappy for me and I have to work Sat. for a while and all day Sun. Also I don't know if Dr. Stockton is coming over but if he is it would be sweet to all get together. Also any other PLU alumni coming over for the weekend give me a call. Later Levi

Levi,

I am flying in Friday night. . .and it is my understanding that our tourney chair and host, Kevin Flynn is organizing a little get-together for everyone coming into town Friday night at a local establishment. We'll definitely need to connect Friday night after I arrive. . .I think my plane hits the ground between 10 and 11 Friday night.

Call me on my cell phone (number has not changed) and we'll definitely meet up Friday night.

I'm picking Whitman over CW 11-10. Whitman will have its hands full though, no doubt. But Whitman has lots of playoff experience--and road playoff experience at that--which I think will guide them through to victory. Wish I could be there to watch.

I'm thinking WWU over SOU 12-8.

I miss the PNCLL postseason.

I think WWU will win 16-13 in a true dogfight.

I also think CWU will win 14-8, they are healthy for the first time this year and are very hungry.

CWU over Whitman 12-11

Western Washington over Southern Oregon 15 to 8.

CWU vs Whitman is the game of the week in the Division II. Should be a great game.

WWU vs. SOU could be close, but I just don't see it.
