I was talking with some people from Gustavus this weekend. They mentioned that they have received recognition from the school as a club. It sounds like lacrosse will be returning to St. Peter soon.

Given their facilities and the culture of their campus (athletic, big in to field sports, women's lacrosse already present), it's only a matter of time before Gustavus is a player in Division II.

Half of their campus comes from Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Edina, or Burnsville/Lakeville. Recruiting would be effortless.

I have a friend that attends GAC and he has informed me that they have recieved funding and they have around 10 or 15 guys as of now.

im unsure of how organized they are but it will be interesting to see GAC in the UMLL.

if this occurs then we will see 10 teams in division 2. that stays true unless someone moves to division one which sits at 8 teams

Of course this is all assuming that they would want to join or are admitted to the UMLL. I think we all know that joining the conference and the MCLA, has become more of a process then it used to be. I think this is absolutely a good thing though. GAC had a team in the past which unfortunately folded. I would think they would have to make a strong case to be re-admitted. Regardless, hopefully they come through and can make it work, but just because they have some school $$$ and 10-15 guys doesn't mean they are ready for the UMLL yet.

Best case scenario it really catches on down there (As Dan mentioned there should be players all over that campus) and they apply in the spring. Hopefully they get in and can find some coaching. The teams that are really performing right now have separated themselves due to developing talent. If they can get a coach down there, they'll be solid after a few seasons.

Does anybody have a contact for the guys getting a team going at GAC?

I've tried getting in touch with somebody/anybody there regarding their program ... and have not had luck.

I live in St. Peter and would like to go check them out ... see how serious they are ... and encourage them if they are suited for joining the UMLL. Not that I have a say, however.
