Alex.... or someone... what's the story with the pirate references and the skull and cross bones stickers on some of the CSU players helmets? Is this some team mentallity thing? Some club team? What is it?

BYU called us the Pirates back in the day (perhaps in an attempt to get under our skin), and we embraced it to the tune of even dedicating an entire season to its theme (2001). It's just kind of stuck around since then as a nice little tradition.

Just a quick note of clarification. The moniker "pirate" was applied in the 2000 national tournament to all of the opponents BYU faced. In fact the t-shirts we made up after the tournament show BYU defeating "pirates" in all three rounds. The next season the term just seemed to be best applied to the Rams, and the rest is history. It was never really intended to be a disparaging term, more like an inside joke (which I am sure CSU has in abundance as relating to BYU
). Personally I think it is great how they have adopted the term and created a tradition out of it.

So in reality, two teams won national championships with the Pirates? I love that.

I can still hear the echoes on South Field...
"Whose house? Pirate's House!"
It was kind of funny to me...but probably not funny to the guys playing at the time.
