Proud to announce that this Saturday, October 20th, Willamette U. Lacrosse will be hosting our 1st Annual Fall Ball Jamboree at Sparks Field (soccer field by main parking lot on 12th & Bellevue). Hopefully in the future we can expand this to many more teams since we are fairly centrally located along I-5.

We will be featuring four teams this Saturday: Willamette, Pacific Lutheran, Southern Oregon, and Lewis & Clark. The games will have running 25 minute halves (one timeout per team per half) and a 5 minute half time. 15 minute breaks between games.

For anyone who wants to come out and watch here is a schedule of the days games:

10 AM - 11:05 : WU vs. PLU
11:15 - 12:20 : SOU vs. L&C
12:30 - 1:35 : WU vs. L&C
1:45 - 2:50 : PLU vs. SOU
3:00 - 4:05 : PLU vs. L&C
4:15 - 5:20 : WU vs. SOU

Hope the weather will just be cloudy and not rainy and we can get a good day of lacrosse in!

Well it was absolutely horrible weather but we got some games in despite some MIA refs and lines that were invisible (they washed away in the rain).

Here are some absolutely unofficial scores as best written down by myself and the time keeper:

PLU 13 Willamette 5
SOU 12 Lewis and Clark 3
Willamette 7 Lewis and Clark 3
SOU 7 PLU 6 (winning shot scored as time expired)
PLU 7 Lewis and Clark 4
SOU 7 Willamette 2

Some really good lacrosse was being played for this early in the season and despite early inclement weather conditions. Thanks to all those who came out and thanks to the refs for working through adversity! Alot of new players to this league who are going to be playing alot this season!

Will, did WU contract with our CAA Keith MacFie to provide officials for your tourney and then they did not show despite his confirmation? What had you agreed to pay them for the day or per game?

This is very troubling IF, in fact, our certified college officials had confirmed they would be there and did not appear. Please elaborate.

We did not have the referees through Keith (Brian Platz was the assignor for our small tourney), however most were PNCLL refs I believe, or at least training to be. The one referee who originally did not show informed us the day before by email that he had a family emergency (these things happen so that was not a problem) however his replacement did not show up, and I was given no explanation. It was not a big problem and I hope I did not make it sound like the refs were in some way disappointing, if I did I apologize.

It was merely one small problem on top of many other small ones that gave the early moments of the tournament a very chaotic feel. The referees who were there should be commended for picking up the slack and doing an AMAZING job, all refs were extremely professional and we hope they will come back again!

No apologies necessary, Will. I was worried that if you had contracted for refs and none showed up that you played games without any zebras, which is NEVER a smart idea. I also forgot that Brian lives there in Salem, and he's a good person to help organize something like a small one-day tourney. These are great opportunities to train local high school refs on three-man college mechanics, and it would always be nice if Keith, Fred or Brian could actually observe, evaluate and clinic the refs -- but if you only have a few guys available and they are all working themselves that's not always possible.
