Friday night. The smell of beer wafted through the air. Jeers, and the occasional cheers, echoed from the crowd. Music played sporadically over the din of voices.
It could have been an Atlanta Hawks game or a Georgia Tech game. But the crowd — largely Emory students — wasn’t at Phillips Arena or Bobby Dodd stadium.
Instead, they were gathered at the Woodruff P.E. Center, enjoying a men’s club lacrosse game against Clemson University (S.C.).
In front of the fired-up crowd, the Eagles didn’t manage to win their Homecoming game, falling 10-8 to the Tigers. But students didn’t seem to care that the scoreboard showed the Eagles losing. Many didn’t even know the score.
According to many in the crowd, that numbered more than 500 people, the atmosphere surrounding Friday night’s Homecoming game mattered more than the outcome.
