Bucknell Men's Lacrosse Names Four Captains for 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The senior quartet of Evan Burns (Baltimore, Md./Boys' Latin), Andrew Goodhand (Sandy, Utah/Juan Diego), Mark Lane (Boonton Twp., N.J./Mt. Lakes) and Nick Marks (Barrington, Ill./Salisbury School) have been named captains of the Bucknell men's lacrosse team for the 2008 season, head coach Frank Fedorjaka announced.

The foursome will lead a Bison squad that returns eight starters from last year's team that finished 11-4 and came within one victory of the school record. All four are expected to be integral parts of the team's fortunes in 2008.

Burns is a three-year starter on close defense. He has played in all but two games in his career on Bison squads that annually rank among the national defensive leaders. Last year's team, for example, allowed only 6.3 goals per game to rank second in Division I behind only Princeton.

"Evan captained the football, basketball and lacrosse teams at Boys' Latin, so he knows how to lead," said Fedorjaka. "I have been very impressed by his maturity and work ethic, and on top of that he is a great player. He has experience as a starter and has experience winning games at every level."

Goodhand is a key part of Bucknell's short-stick defensive midfield rotation. He played in 11 games last season and scored one goal, and he also had a goal and two assists while playing in all 14 games as a sophomore.

"Andrew is the son of a high school coach, so he knows the game very well," said Fedorjaka. "Nobody works harder in practice than Andrew Goodhand. He is well-liked by everyone and leads by example. He is very vocal in practice and a very positive influence. He has gotten a little quicker as well, so we expect him to play a significant role at a short-stick d-middie position where we have quite a bit of depth coming back."

Lane is the last of three brothers to come through the Bison lacrosse program. Rob is a 2003 graduate and a former All-Patriot League midfielder, while Nick is a 2005 graduate and a former team co-captain. Mark Lane is one of the Patriot League's top short-stick defensive midfielders. He has been an impact player since day one of his freshman season, and he has appeared in all but one game throughout his career. Lane has three goals and seven assists to his credit, with one of the assists coming on the overtime game-winner against No. 1 Maryland in 2006.

"Mark has been a starter since his freshman year, and he always gives us 100 percent at every practice," praised Fedorjaka. "With two brothers coming before him, he understands the Bucknell mentality. He brings energy, enthusiasm and leadership on a daily basis."

Marks is a skilled midfielder who has been a scoring threat throughout his career. He has been a first-line middie in each of the last two years and also started six of 13 games as a freshman. Marks has 30 goals and seven assists in his career, including a number of big scores late in close games.

"Nick has really committed himself physically to being a Division I athlete," Fedorjaka said. "Whether it is lifting, nutrition or off-season workouts, he is one of the best in our program. He is also not afraid to get on someone. He does not accept mediocrity. Nick has been a first-line middie for quite awhile, but now he has gotten even stronger and is playing much more consistent lacrosse."

Not only is Andrew a UHSLL product, but he is also a Mason Goodhand product. Congratulations to the Goodhand family, Juan Diego, and Utah lacrosse.
