Boward Named Head Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach

NEWPORT NEWS, VA– Todd Boward, former head boy's lacrosse coach at the Christchurch School in Christchurch, Va., has been named Head Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach at Christopher Newport University, it was announced by head coach Chris Swanenburg.

Boward, a native of Baltimore, Md., comes to CNU with four years of head coaching experience and will serve as the Captain's Offensive Coordinator.

"I'm really excited to be a part of a developing program here at CNU and help build things from the ground up,” said Boward.

He takes over the position in CNU's second year of men's lacrosse after the departure of Andy Sinclair, who left to return to his alma mater, Winter Park H.S., in Florida, as head coach.

The Captains posted a very respectable 4-9 record in their inaugural season, with an almost entirely freshman squad.

A former player at Frostburg State University, Boward served in the United States Army after graduation, rising to the rank of major before retiring in 2001. Following his military career, Boward returned to lacrosse as an assistant at Forest Park High School in Manassas, VA. After a year as an assistant, Boward took over as head coach of the Bruins and led them to three Cardinal District championship games and a cumulative 30-21-1 record.

He then moved on to head the men's lacrosse program at Indiana University. In his one season with the Hoosiers, Boward led the team to a 10-6 record and was named the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association Coach of the Year.

"I've known Todd for a number of years,” said Swanenburg, “and admire what he has been able to accomplish on both the high school and collegiate levels. He brings a wealth of coaching experience, and a degree of maturity and professionalism, that will greatly benefit our program.”

CNU opens its second season of men's lacrosse on February 23, 2008 versus Marymount University in Arlington, VA.
