Tempe, AZ (August 9, 2007) – The Arizona State University Men’s Lacrosse Club announced Chris Malone as its new head coach effective immediately. The Arizona State Sun Devil’s are coming off their most successful season in its 40 year history, which included a final Top 10 Ranking and a trip to the MCLA National Championship Tournament. Malone will replace Adam Hopkins, the WCLL Coach of the Year in 2007.

“The ASU lacrosse team is a talented group of players that is coming off a great season,” said Malone. “I plan to build on that momentum to help this team progress further, starting in 2008.”

congrats to asu. one note however, the article claims that asu is the first team to defeat two number one teams in one week. this is not true. remember oregon anyone? #1 csu #4 sonoma and #1 byu in one week. not tryin to take away from asu's season, just noting that somebody needs to check their facts.

If your talking about this season, Oregon did defeat both No.1 CSU and No. 1 BYU, but those wins were in different weeks. Both games were played on Fridays (CSU was on Friday, Feb. 23 and BYU was on Friday, March 2). Think about it this way, a week runs Sunday through Saturday...you can't have two Sundays or two Mondays in the same week. Oregon just came one day short of defeating two No. 1 teams in one week.

Not to take anything away from Oregon...that is still impressive. It's just Arizona State's wins over two No. 1 teams actually did happen in one week (Oregon-Tuesday, March 27 and Michigan-Saturday, March 31).
