B Division Schedule

B Division Schedule

Postby Choppy49er on Sat Mar 12, 2005 10:38 pm

How do people feel about maybe setting up the schedule to play all opponents? Other than time constraints and other problems, I think it would be beneficial to play all the teams in the Div. (Regardless of who may be in/out of the league next year) Looking at it, Charlotte play everyone but 3 teams. I think it would be good for competition and it would get rid of strength of schedule mostly.~Also It get rids of the mandatory vs. conference- which i dont understand that much anyways...

Just a thought- wondering what other peoples opinions are.

i absolutely agree as long as time constraints and field space would allow it. as much as i love our expanded 11 game schedule this year, it would be much more effective if all selc-b teams played eachother. that would get rid of both mandatory vs. "SELC" play as well as speculation about cross-division competition.

for example, i would love to play liberty during the regular season to see other competition in the league. i would like to expand our schedule next year, especially in regards to out of conference play, so this would be a step in the right direction.

We are playing some OOC games (Central Connecticut, Nicholls St). SOme OOC games fell through. I agree that playing all the Div B teams would be good, but bear in mind the costs. Some teams may only have funding to play those teams closer to them and cannot really travel.

There are 13 teams in the SELC Division B. That makes for 12 games not including Division A teams, and out of conference games. I don't think that will ever become required by the league, but you're more than free to schedule as many games as you wish.

Hey Kevin,

How come the league didn't split the B division into two groups? One with 7 and one with 6? You could have made one cross over game count toward the playoff record of the teams in the 6 team group.

Wouldn't that have been easier for the Playoff seedings?

a 12 game schedule of just league games a little much. If you want to play some out of conference games you are up to at least 14 to have the manditor 2 non-confercence games for post season play. That is if you do not win the automatic bid for the conference. So, if you play all conference teams, 2 non-conference, qualify for the SELC tournament you are up to 16 games. I know I am speaking for one school, but that is a lot of games. A quick count on the schedules page shows that the SELC B division is averaging 9 games per team. So I think budget is a big issue. I personally like rotating every two years the school we are required to play. But who knows, the SELC may expand again, I know VCU is looking at joining, and split into two divisions or something else. Just my ramblings.

couldn't time and budget issues be solved by just having a couple tournaments... most states have several in their area that teams could come from farther away n play several teams.

Reguardless of if a team joins or not... i would like to see a break up of the SELC B. But creating a fair separate Divisions in that.

Right now, who would you all say is going to Atlanta? My guess is App State, Liberty, Davidson, and Emory

It boiled down to having everyone play the same amount of required games. It was a pretty big headache, believe me....the spreadsheets were a mess.

When making up the list of required games, it's usually a question of geography. With the 13 game schedule, we tried to work it out so a) no one was traveling a ridiculous amount and b) all the required schedules (that count towards Atlanta) are fairly even, which was based on last year's performance.

In Buff's words, that's why we make the big bucks...

.....still waiting on that check though
