Who is Trevor Hussey!? Look out Chris Files, there is an heir to your throne of "UNT player no one has heard of, yet named the best player in the conference." I doubt many quality coaches would choose this player over Will James, Paul McCloud, Clayton Schneider, Neil Warf and Ernst Leiss as the MVP...

I was wondering when these debates would get going.....I haven't noticed any campaigning on the boards this year which is pretty good I guess. I also haven't had the privledge of seeing many games this year, so it's tough for me to speculate. I know Trevor is a solid attackman, and Warf from Baylor is pretty good. Other than those 2, I can't say that I've seen any of the other players that you mentioned.
Don't coaches and players vote for this? And wasn't Trevor a 1st team all conference player last season? I'm really not sure so I could be wrong. If he was, then I wouldn't say he's a guy no one has ever heard of.
And I really really really don't want any "Chris Files" debates to get going, but please keep in mind that he was an all-LSA guy 4 years in a row. So it wasn't like he came out of nowhere to win the MVP a couple of years ago.
Again, I'm way too far removed from the game to speculate on this years voting.
Quality Coaches did Pick Him

Actually, lots of quality coaches picked Trevor Hussey over the people listed. He received four first place votes and two second place votes. Over 50 % of the coaches had him at #1 or #2.

Well, the coaches of the conference (quality or not) did choose Trevor over those other players. Anyone who watched UNT play would recognize that Trevor is a great player and very deserving of this award. In the games I watched this year, he was the most talented player on the field considering his stick skills, athletisicm, and conditioning.

To be considered for Academic All america recognition, a player must
1.) appear on the 1st or 2nd All Conference team and
2.) have a Cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed term of study.

first of all...numbers dont lie. eventhough trevor and neil put up big points against weak teams. trevor put up points against the better teams that matter while neil did not. trevor deserved the awards he received. also, its hard for everyone to get certain votes because not all lsa teams play eachother. since teams like ut,ttu, and smu dont play teams like lsu, tulane, rice and so on, its hard for players on those teams to get any votes from eachother. they instead schedule games against stronger teams from other conferences rather than put up 20+ points against the weaker teams in the lsa that they dont need play.

Check your numbers again. If you did you'd see that Hussey didn't have as many points as Neil against the "better teams". The only argument that you could make is that Neil missed a few key games because he messed up his knee against UT and as a result missed the 2nd half of the UT and TTU games and attempted to play against UNT even though he was still on crutches the day before. Besides, you, Clayton, had better numbers against the same teams.
In my opinion Matt Malcom is MVP. I think he would've gotten it if he wasn't a Freshmen
