Looks like we had about 36 folks listening yesterday afternoon to the Georgia/Florida SELC final.
If you were listening to Coach Lovic and myself, I'd love to hear what you thought about the broadcast.
Understand we had some volume problems (Music on Ipod was way too loud, compared to normal broadcast).

I don't listen to Grey's Anatomy or Five For Fighting music. Seriously.

Sonny,
I picked up the broadcast right at the end of the 1st half. Overall I thought it was good. I lost the stream for about five minutes at the end of the game and missed UGA's game winning goal, but it did come back in time to hear the end of the game. I don't know if that was a problem I was having or if it was an issue at the field. I turned down the volume when the music came on, so I don't know if that was too loud.
As for the play by play, I thought you guys did a good job. Heck, Ken was a better color guy than Joe Morgan was last night for the Sox-Yanks game on ESPN. But you guys worked well together and no one person dominated airtime.
Now I could never do play by play, but some criticism or suggestions to help in the future (I spent four years at UGA listening to Patriot and Red Sox games on the radio, so I hope I can provide intelligent insight).
The big thing for me is to give a good picture of the field. You kept saying "to my left or right", but I don't know where you are broadcasting from. In football broadcasts you hear "the falcons for headed left to right across your radio." And using "far side/near side' of the field to describe where the ball is. There were times when the ball loose and I didn't know if it was by the cage, at the top of the box, at x etc... The same with where shots came from. But thats not all your fault, since lacrosse doesn't have terms like "the point" or "the slot" like hockey.
It is small, but it just gives me a better picture of the field. I don't know about others, but when I listen to a game on the radio I try to picture what is going on, not just listen.
It also seemed that guys on offense got more airtime than D guys. You would say who was driving with ball, but not say against who or if there was a slide, who slid.
The only other thing was using numbers and not names. Like I said, its hard to do and I can't do it, but I like to hear names not "number 11 just took a shot." But you were good at saying the name after.
All in all it was well done and I hope that it continues. I hope I wasn't too harsh, but helped for the future. Hey, at least there wasn't any "he passes to the man, he shoots and 'boom goes the dynamite.'"

Sounded like you got everything figured out by the GA/UF game. Your mic and the field mic seemed pretty balanced. Really enjoyed listening. More conferences should consider this (Trying to work something out for the PNCLL's. Audio or video).

I thought you guys did an awesome job with the play by play and commentary. I was on the edge of my seat, jumping up and down, and fist pumping throughout the game! Other than the music and the temporary loss of feed, it was crystal clear.

The broadcast was great. Have you ever tried to stream video? Outside of the increased bandwidth needs, what else is stopping Sonny and company taking it to the next level?

Good points Peter.
Lacrosse is much tougher to broadcast then football (stoppage after every play) and baseball (tons of dead time between plays and pitches) because of it's constant action.
Regarding the "Left to Right" comment - I do borrow liberally from Wes Durham (Voice of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Atlanta Falcons) and I threw that one in there a few times.
It's tough to memorize names and numbers, esp. on short notice and esp. at the club level where jersey numbers seem to change daily. Unfortnately the defense gets the short end of the stick in that department. By the second half, I was comfortable with many of the ball handlers both ways.
The first half audio will be posted shortly as another In The Crease Podcast. Stay tuned.
