PNCLL Week #6 (3/9-3/15) Predict, Scores, Discuss

Friday, March 11th
Utah Valley State 11 Pacific Lutheran 9
Linfield 15 Lewis & Clark 1
Saturday, March 12th
Cal-Poly 14 Simon Fraser 3
Boise State 9 Pacific Lutheran 8
Utah Valley State 17 Puget Sound 4
Washington 15 Whitman 6

Sunday, March 13th
Loyola-Marymount 15 Simon Fraser 14 (ot)
Western Washington 18 Albertson 0
Boise State 11 Puget Sound 9
Linfield 10 Western Oregon 4
Lewis & Clark 9 Willamette 7

Very light week of action here in the PNCLL as teams enter finals and spring breaks. Lewis & Clark (0-5) has two more shots to get a "W" -- Friday night at Griswold Stadium when they host B-South powerhouse and traditional rival Linfield (5-1), and Sunday down I-5 in Salem against Willamette (0-3). It wasn't quite two years ago when a terrific Lewis & Clark team knocked off favored Linfield in the B Finals at Delta Park. Now the shoe is most definitely on the other foot. LC is smarting from their first loss of 2005 and looking to pass on some pain to whatever stumbles across their path, which happens to be the Pios. This game has "blow-out" stamped clearly next to the game number, so the Pios need to really come together with pride and compete hard against their old nemesis. Maybe L&C can summon the ghosts one more time. If not, the Bearcats on Sunday might be a better fit. Willamette has also struggled in 2005, but this is a big game to avoid the B-South cellar. Expect WU to come out fired up in this one.

Albertson (0-3) gathers up for a first PNCLL road-trip to Bellingham to play WWU (1-3). As if the travel (nine hours?) wasn't brutal enough, AC gets a date with a Viking team that blew a nice lead against PLU and then lost in triple-overtime to UPS. Tough weekend, bet "Bruce the Bear" has slings on both arms? Anyway the Vikes need a win, any win, to wash away the bitter aftertaste of the two heart-breaking defeats. A healthy serving of green newbie might be just the ticket. But Albertson is rumored to have a hot Goalie and a rugged bunch of poles, so don't expect them to roll over.

With such slim pickings of B games here in the Northwest, what a perfect chance to turn our gaze east to the Rocky Mountains (okay B East you guys look south instead) as the Loggers and Lutes arrive in Boise for a do-si-do with BSU and RMLC-B heavyweight UVSC. I could hype these games endlessly, but there's really no need. The story is on the field, not here on the Message Board. We are sending two of the best B teams we have against a higher-ranked opponent in the biggest OOC games of the year for the PNCLL B Division. The power rankings for all PNCLL teams will rise and fall on how well PLU and UPS do, especially against ranked Utah Valley. Good luck boys, represent us well!

Kyle will be along when the spirit moves him to preview the A Division, where rumor has it there was some kind of surprise this past weekend. I'm waiting to read about it along with you all, wondering what happened...

Dan, I'm moved....

SFU will play at a well respected #13 Cal Poly (4-2). Poly's two losses this year came to UCSB, and a Chico team SFU and Oregon had a few problems with , but were able to pull out the victories. After last weekend against UW, I'd expect the Clan to come out looking to put this game away early, trying to get every light on the scoreboard to work. If we're lucky, this game won't be rained out, and they won't have problems flying with all the ash in the air.

Whitman will visit Washington, and try to slow down what appears to be an offense that may have clicked. Last season, UW lost at Whitman 16-15. Ben Sadler had an okay game with 5g3a, we'll see if he can duplicate this year against a stregthened Husky D.

SFU will also play an unranked Loyola Marymount (4-3) on their trip through California. Will Thompson of LMU is averaging 3.6ppg, and will be the Clan's main focus on D.

Good luck to all this week!

For those interested in attending the UVSC vs. PLU game the Friday, there may be significant changes in venue. The game in Boise has been bumped from the stadium, and the BSU crew is hoping to find another field with lights for us to hold this game. The Saturday games in Boise - BSU vs. PLU and UVSC vs. UPS will take place inside the stadium on the "Smurf Turf" - but Friday and Sunday's game will likely take place elsewhere.

When the location is determined (and game time) for Friday night's game we will post a thread in the PNCLL and RMLC forums.

C'mon Kyle, give us our due! UW had a LOT more problems with Chico than either UO or SFU did...

I'd like to throw a Good Luck shout out to all of the PNCLL teams that are heading off to play RMLL teams this weekend. Play hard and have fun. CWU had the chance to play Boise State this fall, it was a good experience for us- you guys will have a fun game against them. We've never played against Utah Valley State but we did get a chance to eat breakfast with them at the Holiday Inn. Good times. They're a good team- so play strong.

In a hard fought game, the Lutes went down today 11-9 to Utah Valley State College in Boise, ID.

UVSC 2-6-1-2.............11
PLU 2-2-3-2...............9

An illegal stick 3 minute penalty for a short cross led to the two UVSC goals to start the 4th. . .the Lutes rallied for two goals to close the gap with 7 minutes to play, but couldn't find the cage down the stretch and fell to a very talented and sportsmanlike UVSC squad.

Tomorrow UPS faces UVSC at 11AM and PLU plays Boise State at 6PM on the Smurf Turf.
