20th annual SELC?!?

So, I'm sending the PDF file out to some old AU players and Lil Sisters and one of them does some of that new voodoo math...if we had the first SELC @ Auburn on April 16&17 of 1988, isn't this the 19th annual SELC?

Or, are we counting the '87 Auburn spring tourney, which we won, and which was where the idea of the SELC was born, as the first?

First official SELC tournament was April, 1988 at Auburn.

The SELC was first organized in the Summer/Fall of 1987.

This year (2007) is the 20th annual SELC tournament. This year's tournament program will recognize that fact.

Tell the old farts that we need to get everyone back in Atlanta for one giant SELC social at next year's tourney (2008).

OK, so, I'm not one for math...

But, I did the Auburn-Pensacola game from 1989 up on the internet. Now, if only I can get a hold of the video tape of the first SELC game.

Click the link below.

How did we ever play with those buckets on our heads? Thanks for the video.

It was in my closet. Unfortunately, that's the only AULAX video that I have. I used to have the game against Ft Rucker where the Blackhawks showed up and interrupted our game, but, I have no clue where that went. I also had the UF gave from fall of '87 where Whiner threw his goalie stick 20 feet in the air at an inbound pass, and caught the ball in the air...no clue where it went.

Granted, this was one of those sloppy "everyone gets to play" games...but, in looking at that video it really makes you appreciate how far the SELC has come in two decades in terms of quality of play as well as facilities, coaching, uniforms, and overall organization.

I think one of our Civ-E majors on the team measured our field and determined that there was like 30 foot difference in height between the top right and the bottom left of the field. "Always play downhill in the 4th" Our coach, if he showed up to practice or games was either stoned or, well, yeah, he was always stoned. We were lucky if Hibbett's made the next crop of jerseys the same as the last one...gloves, arm pads, helmets and shorts never matched. And, notice that there's only one ref for a while. Our coach had to lend a hand and ref because the other one was late.

Forget the buckets. How did we play in those tight shorts.

Loved the ref uniforms too! :)

We need more GT/UGA support. Considering the tourney is IN our state...more guys need to show up.

11 guys against UF's armada aren't the greatest of odds.
