Salem St. cracks poll

Not surprisingly SSC broke into the top 25 this poll. Still rather hard to really say just how good they are on a national level. If nothing else this season is really posturing them for much more credit next year, especially since it appears all their major scorers return.

Do PCLL-B teams have to earn at large bids to make nationals?

From how I understand it, Yes they do. I also believe that becuase Salem missed nationals last year, they are not aloud to compete this year. This is just my undertstanding of it all.

I was under the impression that the PCLL lost their AQ for 2007 for Div B. I wasn't aware of any stipulation that Salem couldn't get an at-large bid. The only issue I can see would be meeting the requirement of 3 OOC games. The only MCLA teams outside the PCLL that Salem played are Eckerd and South FL. I think they'd need 1 more to qualify for an at-large bid.

They did go to Utampa, but I dont know if they were in a conference for the game to count.

The one thing that is frustrating is the game versus then ranked, if I remember correctly, #10, Eckerd. Eckerd was in their final couple of games at that point and it was Salem's first game of the season, and after only getting outside for a week or two at the most. Salem also was missing some players on the trip due to school and work obligations. Not trying to make excuses here but, it would be very interesting to have Salem at this point in time play against Eckerd and see what the outcome could have been. I think it would have been alot closer, if not a win.

But yes, for the OOC games, Salem played Eckerd, U.Southern Florida, U Tampa, and scheduled a game against Bates, that which Bates had to back out of due to not fielding enough players to make the trip. Not sure how that works out.

Bates isn't an MCLA team, so that wouldn't count. Are the other 3?

Eckerd is in the B Division of the SELC.
South Florida is in the A Division of the SELC.
U of Tampa is not in the MCLA/SELC.

The Rule States, that because Salem did not go last year, then they are out for this year...
Even if they are 10times better then last year, and could actually fund the trip, they are out...
So it doesn't matter if they win their league or played enough OCC games, THEY ARE OUT...

Talk about restructuring, I think those rules need some restructuring.

Thats too bad about SSC, doesn't seem very fair to me.
Regardless, I think they have certainly earned their place in that top 25.

Not that I don't believe you, but I just don't recall that being mentioned at the fall meeting. Where are you getting that info from? I know we lost our Div B AQ as a result of Salem not going last year, so they couldn't get into the tourney that way... But I don't remember ruling out an at-large bid. Doesn't sound like we need to worry about that now, anyway. Not enough MCLA OOC games, plus I think they would need to be ranked much higher to even be considered. I think only 12 B teams make the tournament? A 23 ranking won't cut it.

No Salem is out, I asked at the fall meeting. Anyone else from our league can go as an at-large, but we were out before the season started. I agree it isn't fair, we should still get the chance...

So, is salem gonna play in the PCLL playoffs? If they can't get the AQ, who would go to nationals if they win?

I believe it is also the ruling that the PCLL lost their AQ so regardless of who wins the PCLL Div. B tourney, they'd still have to earn an at-large to go to Texas.

Correct. PCLL B has no AQ this season.
