The Star Tribune claims those schools have no intention of going D-I.

The North Central Conference

Recent announcements by the University of North Dakota and the University of South Dakota that they will leave the North Central Conference after the 2007-08 school year make the breakup of the 85-year-old conference a virtual certainty.
"I remember getting an e-mail in 2003, when I had just been on the job for nine months," Minnesota State Mankato Athletic Director Kevin Buisman said. "It said, 'The sky is falling.' So, this scenario has been on our radar screens for a while. But what we hoped wouldn't happen, has happened."

A little misleading - he's referring to football primarily - won't affect the Tier 1 sports like lacrosse!

In the next few days I know that our President and AD will have an open forum on campus for staff, and students to ask questions and express views on what the school should do, but our AD has mentioned staying with D-II status for now, with the recent success of our basketball program its hard to say for sure what will happen.

South Dakota leaving the NCC to move to D-1 is ridiculous. They can't win a national title in anything in D-2 except indoor track, and they think they'll be competitive in D-1 sports?

The only thing I like about the decision is that we'll be able to face South Dakota State in sports again. Losing that rivalry made me sad.

MSU annouced yesterday they will seek entry into the Northern Sun which may end up dropping some of MSU's atheletic teams. This will make recruiting harder for teams like MSU and UMD and St Cloud because the Northern Sun has lower limits on scholarships that the NCC.

Does that Mean UMD is in the Northern sun as well? Or are you suggesting that UMD/SCSU have no choice BUT to go to NOrthern sun?
