I was wondering what people thought the poll would look like. Will a first year team be at the top or is UVSC still number one untell the lose in the regular season, if that happens.

i think that it is clear that some of these teams voted pretty high for there own squads. i guess that waiting untell after fall ball to vote had no effect on people.

Are you trying to say that the poll results do not accurately reflect the talent of the teams? The top teams in the pre-season poll performed well this Fall... I think the poll will be justified in the Spring.

I think he is saying that UNC wants to be above FLC since they beat them last weekend.

You're allowed to vote for yourself in the RMLC preseason poll??

No i don't think he is saying we should be above fort lewis based on the fact we beat them in the tournament, although that should have helped. I think he is saying that because wyoming had a first place vote. just a thought from me, Correct me if i am wrong,

Clearly Wyoming voted for themselves. If they believe they should be first place that is their choice.

My feeling is that since these polls are sent out via e-mail and the voters are badgered to respond within a narrow time frame, few people dedicate a significant amount of time towards researching a given team's stats before voting. Most of the voters probably didn't look at who beat who this Fall or the 2007 returners, coaching changes, or whatever a voter takes into consideration. It really comes down to what people knew about the perfomance of a particular team in a previous year, or their "long-term" reputation.

how does the point system work. how many points does a first place vote give you? and for the others???

And if people aren't going to take the polls seriously why should we have them, aren't they rendered pointless if noone takes the time to rank teams for real.
And i am not trying to point fingers at anyone, just throwing my 2 cents out there.

You're kinda right- There is no point to them. That's just how it is. Its not going to affect the season people. I think everybody needs to calm down on this preseason poll stuff.

Don't be saying Wyoming obviously voted for themselves and why isn't UNC #1 or last weekend stuff....blah blah blah. Whatever. That's not needed and name calling isn't the point of this message board.

Yes, Fallball is a description of what will happen in the Spring, but its not always an accurate one. It was just people's oppinion. Calm down.

Its just to let people know what everyone else is thinking....so what you should take away from this poll is:

The top 3 are great teams and contenders so prepare well for them. The next 3 are nipping at the heals of the leaders, so they will be ready to prove anything this spring. Finally, all the rest are going to make a name for themselves, because some people don't think they have what it takes, so they'll prepare the hardest.

(Now that previous statement didn't mean anything toward any particular team, so don't worry about it.)

I guess I'm just trying to knock some sense into people that take this message board too seriously....just relax people!

I happen to feel that these issues are exactly why this forum is here. No calming necessary boys. Everyone is here purely for the exchange of information and personal opinion. If you can't hash out an issue with fans/supporters of another team it's just not fun or beneficial.

In years past, at least part of the idea was that no one knows your conference better than the conference themselves. When the National pre-season poll is/was released, the voters would not be able to vote someone that their conference believed was the 4th ranked team ahead of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd. This is a necessary evil, its just unfortunate that not everyone that votes takes it seriously or decides to vote for their own teams benefit.

On the other side of the coin, & I'm not aware of your conferences situation, but some teams may not be aware of all the pertinent information. I have been a national voter for 2 years & last year was especially difficult for me to find information on teams on several different occasions. Not everyone reads the forum, not everyone fills out the game reports, & not everyone fills out their stats completely or accurately (I've seen more assists than goals a many times). Overall, we'll hope that enough people take it seriously enough to outweigh the others.

I also hope that people take it more serious. Especially since it was the polls last year that helped push over the edge to send us to nationals. I think it will be funny if we are ranked higher in the national poll than in our own league.
