anyone think the preseason polls are going to have a huge overhaul? At this point last year, I don't think anyone had Augustana winning the conference. So any sleeper picks?

I wouldn't say that no one had Augustana College winning the GRLC, just maybe not someone you know.

sorry for that......didn't mean to slight you and your squad. I think what I meant to say was do you think that there are going to be any surprise teams that are going to be legitimate contenders.
Augustana had a phenomenal year, one that most in the conference probably did not expect. I was just wondering if anyone thinks there is going to be this year's Augustana

Some mizzou alumni and I were talking tonight and we agreed that the preseason poll for A was pretty inaccurate...as usual. I won't comment any more than that but it was an agreed opinion from someone who isn't in the league anymore that it was definitely off.....again.

No offence taken. Remember, we didn't even have a trophy/plaque to celebrate after our conference championship because Harding didn't bring it with them to Lisle.
We will see how this season turns out. We lost three seniors from last year's roster of 25. We have added seven freshman this fall, though.
As for teams that could do some damage this season, my picks are Wheaton and South Dakota. Two teams with a lot of talent and are definitely on the rise.
Also, if you disagree with the poll, please justify you argument. Don't just say you disagree and leave it at that. No wonder our conference has the reputation it seems to have nationally if all that gets posted is people whinging for no other reason than to whinge. As Ditka once so eloquently stated, "It's easy to hide behind a microphone," or in this case a keyboard. You might be surprised with some of the responses you get and a constructive dialogue can be stated that might lead to some positives, rather than negative.
Not a sermon. Just a thought.

who's whining? i think the GRLC has the rep it does b/c our teams normally do not perform well in nationals, and/or they choke against other top ranked teams around the country. the glass is half-full, not half-empty.

I think that Nebraska could be a very dangerous team in Division B. They have a new coach, and a big, talented freshmen class. They could certainly play the role of spoilers to some of the other schools in division b.

Honestly, that is very very douptful. I have watched Nebraska play for the last four years and just dont see that happening anytime soon.
As far as the role of spoiler... Nebraska is not eligible for anything in the post season, therefore they can't spoil anything.

So does that mean Nebraska's record doesn't affect any of the other standings in Division B? Not being eligible for the post season doesn't necessarily mean they can't affect other team's record, and subsequently spoil another teams chances at post season play in division b. If thats not the case then you're correct they can't be a spoiler.
As to the other arguement, by no means do I believe Nebraska will make some sort of startling turnaround this season. I would argue that they could surprise a few teams that would underestimate them. It is a long process to go from being one of the worst in the league to a respectable program, but it has to start somewhere.

Those in control of the Nebraska club have a lot of work to do, possibly more off the field than on. As for spoiler, if they are not eligible for the post-season, their record should not count against teams they play, either negatively or positively.
They agreed to being in the B Division under these terms. I wish them good luck and look forward to Nebraska being a power in our conference. We are only as strong as our weakest team and parity in something we are in desperate need of in the GRLC.
If Nebraska is interesting in playing Augustana, please pm me.

I would argue the exact same.

well guys,
at the league meeting.....we were pretty much forced to return to the b division. After a certain coach pushed for us to go up a division last year, he pushed to have us removed from the league this year. We discussed at the meeting that we are ineligable for post season play. Our record in our conference could infact have an outcome on who goes to the conference tourney. Therefore, though we are ineligable to play in the conference championship, we can knock off teams that have a chance to play in it.
sincerly,
TJ Nichols

i personally wish Nebraska all the luck in the world.... It was only a few seasons ago that no one respected Wheaton, Augustana, etc.... and look at where they are at now. I would not like being the team who took you guys too lightly and ended up paying the price.
It sounds as if you are now finally on the right track, and hopefully that is where you stay. Good Luck this season Huskers
