Best of the West Numbers Decline
I was just wondering why the BOTW tourney saw a drop in numbers this year. Only 8 teams are scheduled to play, and no B teams are even on the schedule. I heard it became invite only and then I heard that the "organizing body" was having difficulty running the show. Can anyone elaborate on this years developments?

I am not the expert on this (and maybe altalax can weigh in) but in recent years the "Best of the West" tourney turned into a "whoever can come" tourney. Originally (say 1998-2002) the tournament was for the best teams in the west (and was by invitation only). Folks who participated in those original Vegas fall tournaments wanted it to get back to a true "Best of the West" format. This tournament is being independently run and not being organized by the UNLV team as it has been over the last several years.
Also many teams were tired of playing on that crappy field across from the Hard Rock Casino, as well as the lack of organization.
At one point over the summer there was still going be a tournament hosted by the UNLV folks, but I don't know if they got their act together and set it all up.
