Hey to everyone out there. My name is Mike Carfang. I wanted to make it public knowledge that UCCS now has a lacrosse club. I have been coaching them for the past two months. We are holding strong at 20+ players with varied ability.

We are in the process of ordering uniforms and are looking for teams willing to scrimmage us. If not for the fall then hopefully for the spring. We have one issue. We are unable to line the new turf field at Mountain Lion Stadium (for the moment). We need to show proof of a substance that can be put on the field that is not permanent and can be easily removed after application. So, for now, all scrimmages will need to be at an away location for us.

I also wanted to make some contacts out here because I am fairly new to this area and this whole process. I want to get these guys off to the right start. I looked at the process of joining RMLC and our money situation is tight right now. Funding from the school will be little to none.

I started a website for the team...the link is
www.leaguelineup.com/mountainlions
All of my contact info is on there if anyone wishes to contact me.

I look forward to hearing from everyone. We are extremely excited about what we have started here at UCCS and can't wait to get things really rolling.

Contact the manufacturer of the turf, they will most likely have a list of paints that will work for you. Welcome to the intermountain west lacrosse community.

Good Luck getting things off the ground Mike. Having a team there in Colorado Springs could help ease the travel of the intermountain community by hosting neutral site games and tourneys. How many Spring games do you have lined up and will you be willing to travel??

Thanks for the words of encouragement and advice guys. And thank you to those who have emailed me personally. Metro, I believe we will take you up on your offer. I will email you sometime after our practice on Tuesday.

Phantanimal, I will start looking into getting our field lined for games and I hope we can do a tourney or 2. As of now we have nothing scheduled for the spring. I was supprised about the turnout we have had so far and really didn't think that far ahead. I will be open to just about anything.

I hope to see each and every one of you on the field one of these days. And keep the offers comming.

As far as paint for your turf. Talk to Matt Polityka at Utah State. They used soem type of water-based paint on their football stadium's rubber-in-fill turf for the RMLC playoffs last April. It was cleaned off with some industrial solution and a pressure washer. Facilities had no problem with it and the yellow contrasted well with the field. They were anal at first but since a test spot a week before the game came out just fine they said it was good to go for future lining.

Phantanimal,

Thanks for that contact with Coach Polityka at Utah State. He had the exact info to help us out. We should have lines on our field by early spring.

Ed,

Oh yeah! We are ready to play. Thanks for setting it all up.

If anyone is interested checking us out, we will be playing Metro State College this Sunday Oct 22 at 11 in the South Suburban Family Sports Center Dome.

That's the company that makes our marking paint. They'll send you a can to give to facilities to test it at no charge. Good luck with the team, it sounds like you're getting lots of support here in the RMLC!

Hey all,

I know it's beginning to feel a lot like winter outside but we are still looking to take on at least one more team before the snow hits hard. We were supposed to play up at 5 Star Stadium this weekend but not enough teams would commit. And with the sour taste of our loss to Metro still in our mouth, we wanted one more chance to gain experience so nothing like that will happen again.

If anyone is interested in playing us please shoot me an email.

We are also looking to set some games up for the Spring. We too, like Metro, are fighting the system to gain the rights to line and use our home field. We thought we had the ok but someone in the upper ranks refuses to allow us. So, for now, we would have to set everything up as away games for us.

Thanks and hope to hear from everyone.

Spring Schedule

Postby UCCS LAX on Thu Nov 30, 2006 9:10 pm

We are still looking for more games in the spring. So far this is all we have:

Metro State Feb 17
U of New Mexico March 4
Metro State May 5

We are very willing to travel, within reason for a self-funded team. If our fundraising goes well we may be able to do more than expected, so just ask.

We are really interested in playing CO School of Mines, Regis, CSU-P, Western, UNC, Ft. Lewis. Along with anyone else not in this list.

If interested please contact me or Matt Elsner the RMLC Scheduling Officer. We should have a home field secured very soon.
