Men's Lacrosse Brings In Nine Recruits For the 2007 Season

The Robert Morris University men’s lacrosse program has announced the nine players that will continue their playing career for head coach Bear Davis. Salvatore Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip), Kevin Baranowski (San Diego, Ca. / Junipero Serra), Brock Arter (Edgewater, Md. / South River), Pat Smith (Westminster, Md. / Westminster), Rob Valentine (Mt. Vernon, Va. / Mercyhurst North East), Kyle Marceau (Concord, Mass. / Concord), Thomas Kingsmore (Erie, Pa. / McDowell), Pat Britton (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley) and Brian Guy (Garden City, N.Y./Chaminade) will join the Colonials for the 2007 season.

Barcia recorded a .645 save percentage and went 64-3 in his three years as the starting goalkeeper for West Islip. During his career he helped his team cap off three Long Island championships, three Suffolk championships and claim the New York State Championship in 2006. Barcia earned first team All-Long Island and honorable mention All-American his senior year.

“Sal has played at the highest level of high school lacrosse and has handled it well,” said coach Davis. “We look for him to push for a starting role.”

Baranowski, a 6-4, 190-pound defender was a stand-out at Junipero Serra High School. During his four-year career, he accumulated 250 ground balls, scored two goals and tallied three assists. He was also named captain of his squad and defensive MVP two years in a row, earned all-league honors three years in a row, and was named male athlete of the year his senior year.

“Kevin has great size and solid athleticism, as well as the potential to be a great takeaway defender for us this year,” said Davis.

Arter, 6-1, and 195-pounds, was a key component to the Seahawks at South River high school. In his 2006 campaign, Arter found the back of the net with 31 goals and picked up five assists playing attack / midfield. As a senior he was elected team captain of his squad as well as being an honorable mention coaches pick and being awarded a spot on the Baltimore Sun’s second team All-County team.

“Brock is a deceptively smooth player, and we’ll expect great things from him on the playing field,” said Davis.

Smith, a 5-11, 173-pound attackmen should be a key offensive player for the Colonials in 2007. At Westminster, Smith set the single-season goal scoring record for the Owls by unleashing 74 scores, with seven assists on his opponents. In his career, his team put up records of 15-1 and 14-5, and racking up three county conference titles and one regional championship. Smith was elected first team All-County and All-Conference his senior year.

“Pat can flat out find the back of the net,” said Davis. “Joining Brandon Johnson, a former Westminster attackmen, may have the makings of a real interesting tandem in the future.”

Valentine, a 6-2, 195-pound midfielder can bring great versatility to the field for Robert Morris this season. A junior transfer, Valentine previously played for Mercyhurst North East the past two seasons. In his career there, he scored 39 goals and 15 assists while vacuuming up 111 ground balls earning him honorable mention all-region honors and placing him fifth in the country in goals. During his high school days, Valentine was a stand out at Mt.Vernon putting up 122 points and capturing 219 ground balls. His accolades included being a three-time first team all-district player, district player of the year and first team all-region.

“Rob will bring a great deal of size to our offense,” said Davis. “He can play up and down the field very well.”

Marceau, a 6-1, 185-pound attackmen is a proven winner telling from his resume at Concord. Over four years, he accumulated 125 goals, 105 assists, and two-state championships while playing for coach Presmo. He earned all-state honors his last two years in school.

“Kyle has a good sense for the field,” says Davis. “He does a good job of finding the open guy for a score.”

Kingsmore, a 6-0, 165-pound midfielder can play a diverse role for the Colonials. During high school he assumed the role of attack, middie, and even as a long stick midfielder for a 114 career points and becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer. Kingsmore was a three-time offensive player of the year and a two-year captain.

“Tom is a very raw athlete, but he shows flashes of a solid Division I player and we look to develop him,” said Davis.

Britton, a 5-10, 160-pound attack / midfielder, has the ability to play both sides of the ball at offense or defense. Playing for the Screamin Eagles his senior year he scored 36 goals with 16 assists, while picking up 36 ground balls. Britton’s team claimed a regional championship in 2003 and took home the divisional championship in 2005 after posting a mark of 12-3.

“Pat has a great first step and is very explosive,” says Davis. “We expect him to help our team either at attack or midfield.”

Guy, a 5-9, 185-pound goalkeeper has what it takes to be a great asset to the Colonials coming from one of the premier power house schools of New York. During the 2005 season, Guy was the only Chaminade player to play in the New York Empire State game.

“Brian comes from a great school,” says Davis. “He is a tough competitor and we look forward to having him on the team.”
