MN Elite wins first game of summer 5-3 over Cherry Creek. It was a rough game for the maroon and gold of Minnesota but they pulled off the win.

Kip Dooley had 1 goal and 3 assists, David Upjohn 2 goals, Joe Costello 1 goal, and VinceWigdahl with one on man up.

MN had 2 take aways, 14 successful clears/3 failed clears, 16 turn overs and out shot Cherry Creek 22-7.

1st game of summer season, lot's of work to do to keep the tradition alive.

MN Elite Finishes qualifying round 4-0.

An early 7-4 win vs Ft. Collins United awaited the team as they woke up this a.m. after yesterday's long day.

60 min later they played a hard fought game vs Exellerate A (sp?) a combined team from Colorado. MN pulled away with less than a minute left for a 6-5 win.

Team Texas awaited the Elite next. We were able to play everyone significantly in an 11-3 win.

Next game in 3 hours... opponent tbd...

There are two Xcellerate teams from Colorado (Blue and Silver). The first game was against the Blue team. Was this 14-1 win against the Blue team that you previously beat 6-5 or was this against the Silver team?

who is playing the most in the nets? Also, can we expect all stats to be posted? And a more in depth look at how the team did later this week when everyone is back?

MN beat Ft Collins United in OT 7-6 for the championship. MN was 3 goals down with less than 3 minutes left in running time. That three minutes was the longest 3 minutes in this coaches career. Everything happened so fast I barely remember what was going on. Infact on the game tieing goal I thought we were still one down.

Wigdahl stuffed a lefty to put us within two, Kip sniped top right corner to put us within one and Wesenberg tucked an empty netter to make it even and go into OT (the goalie went back to back up a shot that didn't go out of bounds, Kip fought for the GB and pushed it to Wigdahl who then pushed it to Wesenberg for the winner.

In OT we took about 20 shots and missed each time. The attack hustled for back ups and rode the ball hard to get second chances. Kip kept drawing a shorty and took it to the net 2-3 times. On the last one he drew the double and found a wide open Cory Childsm on the door step who dumped an over hand high to low for the winner.

What a game!

The weekend went well, the competion was solid and there was a lot of coaches present. The team finished 7-0 and extended the programs over all record to 45-3 and 4 consecutive tournament championships.

Playing time was fairly balanced until the championship game. Everyone started at least two games and played halves. The last two games we started our maroon line (1st line attack, mids, def) and kept them in as we needed. In hindsite I probably should have taken the maroon defense out midway throught he second half of th championship game and put in fresh legs. I didn't and I will make that adjustment next time we're in that situation.

Goalies split halves and both played great. Neither made the all star game which Hoban and I felt was a shame as the early games where we struggled they kept us in with some huge saves.

Costello was the horse we road to the championship, while most kids are happy to "overplay" I think we over used him (again in hindsite), but he was an offensive threat, our only consistent face off winner and created a pluthera of turn overs in transition.

Costello, Baxter, Donna, Wigdahl, Hewitt, Dooley and Gilligan all made the all-star game. Wigdahl came out and played like a maniac with 4 goals in the first half.

It was a great weekend and we look forward to Vail with the alumni next week!

Can we please get five or six more decimal places on the PPG stats? I can't figure out what kind of tournament those kids had based on this!
