Queens University (Charlotte, NC) Announces Class of 2010

Charlotte, NC - Queens University of Charlotte's men's coach Jim Fritz announces the addition of 19 players to the team as part of the class of 2010. This group is the 4th class that Coach Fritz has brought in since being hired in 2003 to start the program. The class includes 3 attackmen, 10 middies, 4 defensemen and 2 goalies. (The class also features two sets of cousins in the Stansley's and Matt Lloyd and Dave Taylor.) Last year in their 3rd season, the Royals finished tied for first in the Deep South Conference and advanced to the conference final game.

On Attack the Royals welcome Brian Masterson (St.John's Jesuit HS, OH), Tyler Cashin(Chist School,NC), Scott Stansley(Sylvania Southview HS, OH). Masterson, a 3 year letterman and first team all league selection for St. John's where he helped lead his team to the playoffs all 3 years. He was a team captain and led team in points both his junior (66 points) and senior year (80 Points) and is the schools all time point leader. Brian was also a 3 year letter winner in football and helped them to the playoffs all 3 years. Tyler Cashin, a 3 year starter, was an all-state and all conference selection who led his team in points and into the semi finals of the state playoffs and was team captain as well as named team MVP. Tyler also lettered in football and swimming while at the Christ School. Scott Stansley was voted team captain and outstanding attackman, a 3 year starter he also led team in points and helped lead his team to the playoffs. He also quarterbacked the football team where was a 3 year letterman as well. "I think this is a very talented group said Fritz They all bring something to the table for us. I see them helping us now and in the future."

Queen's large group of midfielders features Louis Boyle (Bel Air HS, MD), David Taylor (Northern HS,MD), Jim Ring (DeMatha Catholic HS), Kris Barrett ( MacArthur HS,NY), Chris Mullery (Arthur L. Johnson Regional HS, NJ), Jack Jones (Forest Hills Central HS, MI), Brenden Stansley (Sylvania Northview HS,OH), Matt Lloyd (Northern HS, MD), Zach Garcia (Providence HS, NC), and Ben Archambault (DeMatha Catholic, MD). Boyle was a 4 year starter and 3 time all county selection at Bel Air. A 3 year captain as well, he also finished his career with over 200 points and was voted team mvp and helped lead his team to the playoffs. Boyle was recently selected to the Maryland State Lacrosse Coaches Assoc. All –State Game. Taylor a 4 year starter at Northern helped lead his team to conference and regional titles. Along the way he was named all conference and all county 3 straight years and conference player of the year his senior year as was as named to the all-American team. He was named all conference and all county in both football and wrestling and will play in the US Lacrosse High School North/South game.

Jim Ring helped lead his team to the conference title and was a 3 year letterman and all conference selection for DeMatha and received the coaches award his senior year. Barrett, a 4 year letterman has helped MacArthur make the playoffs all 4 years. He was captain in both his junior and senior year and was a 2 time honorable mention all county selection, Barrett was also a 2 year letterman in football. Chris Mullery played both attack and middie at Johnson where he was a 4 year letterman and led them to the county semi finals all 4 years and led team in points his junior and senior year. He also lettered in indoor track and was a 3 year letterman in football earning all conference and all county honors. Jack Jones was a four year letterman in football and an all-conference selection. In lacrosse Jones, was a 3 year letterman and 2 year captain, who helped lead his team to the conference title and the playoffs and was an all conference selection Branden Stansley, like his cousin Scott, was also a 3 year starter and helped lead team to the playoffs. He was also an all-Ohio selection. Branden,a two year captain in lacrosse, was also a 2 year captain in football where he was a 4 year letterman and also lettered in swimming and diving.

Matt Lloyd was a 3 letterman in lacrosse and a 2 year letterman and won the leadership award in swimming while at Northern. Like his cousin David Taylor he led Northern to the playoffs all 3 years and to a regional title. Matt was also their top face-off man and was team captain his senior year. Zach Garcia a 2 year letterman at Providence, was an all state and all conference selection as well as being named to the Queens City all –Star game both his junior year and senior year. Garcia was also named captain his senior year and was selected to the Great 38 all-Star game. He also helped Providence claim two conference titles and to a final 4 finish in the state playoffs. Ben Archambault helped his team to a conference title while being named all-conference. Besides lacrosse he was also a 2 year letterman in hockey."This might be where we will see the most immediate impact in our class. This is a very athletic group and I feel a few of them can come in and contribute right away and give us some key players for next year as well when we lose a number of mids to graduation," said Fritz

On the defensive end the Royals welcome Hunter Roof (The Calverton School), Jordan DeManss (Centennial HS, MD), Shaun Gaskill (St.Mary's HS, NY), and Dustin Dulinski (Olentangy HS, OH) as well as Wally Mcgregor (East Chapel Hill HS) and Chase Holiday (Oak Hall School, FL) in goal. Roof was a 3 sport letterman at Calverton earning 4 in lacrosse, 5 in soccer and 4 in basketball. In lacrosse he helped them to the finals 3 years in a row and was a two time all-southern Maryland and all-county pick. In soccer Roof was a two year captain and two time all league selection. In basketball he was a 3 time team MVP, two time captain and 2time all county and all league selection. DeManss, a 2 year starter, helped lead Centennial to two state championships, 2 regional championships and 1 county title. He was also was a 3 year letterman in football where he was an all metro selection and team captain.

Shaun Gaskill was a 3 year letterman at St. Marys. Dustin Dulinski, a 3 year letterman at Olentangy he helped lead them to the state playoffs all 3 years. An all state, all-region and all-Ohio selection he was also team captain and the defensive MVP. McGregor lead his team to two conference and state titles ('04,'06) while at East Chapel Hill. His senior year was his best being named first team all state as well as team defensive MVP , the state championship MVP and Defensive MVP of the Great 38. Holiday helped lead green Hope in NC to the playoffs in 04 and 05 before moving to FL and taking Oak Hall to the playoffs as well. His senior year he was all district and also lettered in Football where he was team captain. "Defense was an area we did not have as big a need for this year but wanted to have some key guys in place as we lose 4 from the d end next year and I think we did that. I feel Hunter might be one of the best athletes on the team and will be a key player for us for the next 4 years," said Fritz.

Coach Fritz felt that "with our first recruiting class graduating next year and it being so big, our plan was to bring in players who could not only help us now but in the future and I think we did that. This class will be a great addition to the program, as we have helped our selves get better at every spot and put ourselves in position not to miss a step when that first class graduates. I think it is a very athletic group that can help us not only compete for the conference title but hopefully for a NCAA playoff spot as well."
