Spring Meeting:

To be held shortly after the completion of the two DIV A Semifinal games on this coming Saturday.

Location - meet at the NSC A fields and we'll find a place to chat.

Topics of which I know about:

1. Admission of Univ of North Dakota

2. N. Mich had some conversations about attending and presenting themselves for membership. I'm unsure if they are attending.

Spring Meeting

Postby NMUlaxWILDCAT on Wed Apr 26, 2006 6:57 pm

Northern Michigan University will be attending the spring meeting in regards to admittance for the 06-07 season. The meeting is the same time as the GLLL championships in Madison, WI so we will only be sending one of our officers to attend the meeting.

I am questioning letting Marquette rejoin the league. Every year it seems like they have some unique situation that prevents them from playing some games. I understand some of the issues, but it is frustrating seeing a Marquette in and out every year. I think it is time that we get a strong commitment from them if they are going to continue to play in the UMLL.

Failed to make games repeatedly. Weather was an issue one time, but I seem that this has happened on multiple occasions. If weather is going to be an issue then a phone call would be nice, but nothing was communicated until after the fact. I think one year they left the UMLL tournament early. Maybe I am thinking of some other issues with different teams, but if I am correct we have had numerous issues with Marquette in the few years they have been in the league. I think if they stay we need a definite vote of confidence. Also with Sidney gone it will be interesting to see what happens with the coaching situation.

Tex,

Marquette has not been removed from the league

I think you're combining a number of different episodes and attributing them to one team.

Marquette failed to appear at a regular season game 3 years ago due to weather-related travel conditions that the coach felt put his team at risk. Coach Jones notified the league of his concern in the midst of his deliberations and was informed that, according to our bylaws at the time, missing the game would force Marquette to forfeit, which the would then place them on probation and make them ineligible for playoffs. Coach Jones and Marquette made the decision not to travel that day in the interest of safety.

Subsequently, the league amended it's bylaws to correct this flaw that forced a team to decide between safety and sanctions.

I do not recall them missing any tournament games. In fact, Coach Jones was a strong voice at those spring league meetings. I'll miss his viewpoint and input.

It is my understanding that Sid's assistant coach (Ponchito?) will be taking the helm.

It sounds like Marquette is making a strong case to be a strong member of this league. I am looking forward to continuing to see them on the field.

Just to clarify, is Marquette going to be back next year for sure in Div. A? Also, since we admitted UND, did we decide that their enrollment size next fall will determine what division they're placed in?

This will bring the total size of the UMLL to 16 teams. Are any other teams expected to move from Div. B to Div. A next year or vice versa?

It is great to hear the UND will be playing in the UMLL next year. I have heard they are very excited to play and I believe will be good competition for the UMLL. My question since how do you place them in the divisions? Do they go to B since they are a first year team or is it A because of their D1 hockey program and school size?

I believe we have already had this conversation under a topic called "A teams required to play B teams"

I believe it should answer your question.
