The Huskies played against the North Dakota State University Bison and walked away with a 23-1 victory.
Second-year student and captain Adam Christianson was the game's top scorer.
For the Huskies, it was a good way to start off the season because they were picked to be in the bottom half of the conference.
"This year our goal is to have a good showing and a winning record," Cory Frank said.
The team has a lot of strong players that contributed to their first win of the season. The strongest players were the three captains Christianson, Joe Gannes and Nick Hanson who all contributed greatly to the victory.
"My personal goal for the season this year is to establish myself as a team leader," Christianson said.
The team lost a couple key players from last year including Nick Van Pelt who was one of the team's attackers and two defense players Kyle Cook and Blake Zidol.
Although the team lost some important players, they are looking to improve their record from last year's 3-7 mark.
The team is also looking forward to playing against a few rival teams like St. Johns University, Moorhead State, and Mankato State-Mankato.
The SCSU lacrosse team is really motivated to improve their record and practice three times a week.
They have been taking advantage of the new facilities and practice in the dome.
"The dome is a really nice facility and a great field to play on," Frank said.
Lacrosse is played on a surface similar to a soccer field. There are four 15-minute quarters. There are 10 players on the field, including three attackers, better known as forwards, three roamers also known as mid-fielders, three defensive players and one goalie. All the players on the field have short sticks, except for the defense players who have longer sticks to help them defend the goal.
The team started off their season on a strong foot and they are looking forward to making sure everyone knows they are not going to be satisfied being ranked as the lowest team in the conference.
"My favorite aspect of this game is the competitiveness and having a good time with my buddies," Christianson said.
By having fun and being dedicated, the Huskies are aiming to change their record.
