CCLA Tournament

With the tournament around the corner, has the league set up any game times at East Grand Rapids High School. I know that the tournament falls during final exams at Oakland, and the university would like to know what the schedule will be so they can make arrangements with the student, and professors well in advance. I know it all depends on seeding, but a ball park of the schedule would be great. Also at the CCLA meeting there was talk about playing two games in the A division to make it worth while for the losing teams. Will that be happening, and will that happen for the B division as well.

The current draft has games starting 5 o'clockish Friday with 3 additional games to give every team a guaranteed 2nd game.

2 A Quarter Final games back-to-back on same field Friday night
2 B semi-final games back-to-back on same field Friday night

1 A 5th place game Saturday
2 A semi-final games Saturday
1 B 3rd place game Saturday
1 B Championship Saturday

1 A 3rd place game Sunday
1 A Championship Sunday

The league requests that teams stick around for divisional championship games, during intermissions awards will be presented to players who earned recognition.

Andy, thanks for the info. Do you know what time the A games would be on Saturday?

The current plan has A games as the first 3 of the day back-to-back-to-back starting at 11am.

You are correct the title game for A is on Sunday.

I've begun to block out hotel reservations and would like to hear some feedback on what teams are looking for.

Quality Inn - Terrace Club - 4495 28th St. S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49512
Double Queen rooms + Breakfast
20 rooms blocked both Fri & Sat $72+tax (norm $89.95 or $106.30 w/ tax)

Best Western - Midway - 4101 28th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512
Double Queen rooms + Breakfast
20 rooms blocked Fri & 10 blocked Sat $74+tax (norm $86.02 or $101.76 w/ tax)

Where did teams stay last year?

How many rooms would the average A/B team want?

Is there a price/feature range you'd like me to find?

There are so many hotels in the area, should I just let teams take care of this themselves?

If my memory serves me correct, we stayed at a Howard Johnson on that main strip. Everything went smoothly and our stay was exceptional.

Almost. The bracket layout is there, but not the schedule. Do we have a schedule set?

Took some time to sort through bid scenarios:

A DIVISION

NORTH (5 games)
Michigan 3-0 (Oakland, Michigan State)
Michigan State 3-0 (Oakland, Michigan)
Oakland 2-0 (Michigan State, Michigan, Central Michigan)
Western Michigan 1-3 (Eastern Michigan)
Eastern Michigan 1-3 (Western Michigan)
Central Michigan 0-4 (Oakland)
Michigan and Michigan State have clinched spots. Oakland needs one win to clinch a spot. Loser of WMU/EMU is out, and winner needs Oakland to lose next three and then it would go to tiebreakers. CMU is out.

SOUTH (6 games)
Buffalo 4-1? (no score submitted for 3/4 game vs. Purdue)
Indiana 3-1 (Ball State, Purdue)
Pittsburgh 2-2 (West Virginia, Ball State)
Purdue 2-2 (no Buffalo score, Indiana)
Miami 2-3? (no score submitted for 3/31 game vs. Ball State)
West Virginia 1-3 (Pittsburgh, Ball State)
Ball State 0-2? (no Miami score, Indiana, West Virginia, Pittsburgh)
There are two scores missing (Buffalo vs. Purdue and Miami vs. Ball State), so rankings are not complete. Were those games played? If not, when are they being made up? Buffalo has clinched a spot. Everyone else is technically still in the hunt.

B DIVISION

NORTH (5 games)
Ferris State 3-1 (Grand Valley)
Grand Valley State 1-0 (Calvin, Hope, Ferris State, UM-Dearborn)
Hope 1-2 (Grand Valley, Calvin)
Calvin 0-2 (Grand Valley, UM-Dearborn, Hope)
UM-Dearborn 0-3 (Calvin, Grand Valley)
Ferris has clinched a spot. Everyone else is technically still in the hunt.

SOUTH
Dayton 4-0 (Grove City)
Carnegie Mellon 4-1
Taylor 1-2 (Grove City, IUP)
IUP 1-2? (no Grove City score reported 4/5, Taylor)
Grove City 0-2? (no IUP score reported 4/5, Taylor, Dayton)
Dayton and Carnegie Mellon have clinched the two spots. Everyone else is out. Dayton is the top seed regardless of how they do against Grove City due to head to head win over CMU.

Are we (the CCLA) going to set an itinerary this year for the weekend? I'm assuming a break down of events, how to's, where to's.............I could probably dedicate a few hours to lending a hand myself.

You know what would be great, if we had some sort of live message board, which was somewhat autonomous, that the league reps and coaches could meet on to discuss things of this sort. With the advent of web cams and chat rooms it could work. As to how that's a different question.

Buffalo/Purdue

Thanks guys. Does the conference know about those reschedules? Robbie Heaps and Clark Bell both need to know, and the mdia website needs to be updated.
