Bridgewater State held it's 5th Annual Alumni Game on October 1st. 35 Alumni made the trip back to campus to take on the current Bears squad, and new Head Coach, Chuck Little. The game is played for the "Red Keg", which displays the scores for each game, and is retained by the winner until the next fall. The undergrads had won the last three meetings, but this year was all Alumni. Eric Lobo led the way, winning the opening face-off, driving into the offensive end and scoring off a deflected feed..this was done while wearing a backpack stereo blasting Michael Jackson. The Alumni came right back as former Head Coach Dan Warren blasted a shot stick side on his former keeper Adam Slys. About 2 minutes later former captain Matt Strzepka ('96) put away a great feed from Mike Messier ('01) and put the Alumni up 3-0. The three goal lead, along with a whole lot of trash talking, had the undergrad Bears scrambling to play catch up. While they were able to cut the lead to 1, the Alumni defense was just too much for the young guys , as they were turned away by the solid goaltending of Joe Crane ('04) and Tom Bushy ('97). Not to go unmentioned was the hit of the game by Rookie Alumnus Tim Gonsalves, who buried Hymeld Gaignaird after recieving a buddy pass. The Alumni offense took over from there, and 2 more goals by Lobo, along with 2 from Heath Carafa ('01), put the game out of reach. The 7-4 win was the largest margin of victory for any team in the short series. Afterwards, a great time was had by all as the Alumni continued their winning ways against the current Bears squad, in many other games at a local establishment.
