We have guys who are in grad school with remaining eligibility years...
but a full time grad schedule at UNCC is 9 hours (3 classes), will that be sufficient for eligibility in the spring, or will guys have to special request one extra class to play? I asked Buff to mention this at the summer meetings. looking for an update. thanks.

My understanding of the grad rule was that they have to play at the same school they finished their undergrad degree and had to be enrolled as a full time grad student. If that is 9 credit hours at UNC-C that should be fine. But I am sure some one will post the correct answer.

Unless allowed through an appeal, my understanding is that grad students must have 12 credit hours regardless of what constitutes full time at the school.

well how do i file an appeal? cuz this specifically applies to me and i dont want to have 12 hours of grad school classes. full time is 9 at UNCC, thats what i was planning to do. i can get documentation from our graduate school and registrar's office if necessary.

Start with your Conference Director.

I can assure you that the MDIA Board of Directors will enforce the policy requiring you to take 12 credit hours to be eligible for MDIA play regardless of what your institution deems full time for graduate programs. Exceptions to this policy are rare and require significant documentation.

We had a guy in a simliar situation a couple of years ago and he just took 3 hours of gym classes to fulfill the league 12 hr requirement. I beleive we were advised (by the league) that it didn't matter what your institution deems full time, it usually has to be 12 hours no matter what.

I have already been to Buff, last spring when i got into grad school and found out this was going to be an issue...he said he'd bring it up at the summer meetings...havent heard back.

as far as an appeal to the MDIA is concerned what documentation is needed?...i will get it it, i have a few months. I figure if this has been the "full time" distinction at my institution for years and has not been changed recently to give our school an unfair advantage in some way, i dont see why this is a problem. Im not paying $400 to take a completely useless gym class if i dont have to but i suppose that is an option, please let me know what i would actually need to do to appeal this... my email address is ChrisFiscella@gmail.com

The problem is that various institutions define "full time" differently. Some schools is six hours, some schools it's 9 hours, some it's 12 hours, and some it's 15 hours... At some school, you can audit one or two classes and it's considered full-time.

You can see the obvious problems inherent in trying to govern some 200 schools in nine different conferences across the country. It's about trying to create a level playing field for everybody in the MDIA.
