League Meeting is late next month, we won't know anything for sure until then. They'd have to present their case, show their organization, officials, and then get voted in by the other teams.

Boise State? Heck yes!

We played those guys at the Gem State Tourny last season... very physical bunch of guys and fun to play against. After things appeared almost hostile on the field, it was all good sportsmanship after the everything was said and done. It was one of those games you love to play... I hope these guys choose to join the PNCLL, and hopefully everyone will rally around them, too.

As for Montana State, that's a long drive- I could go either way on that subject... no opinion, but those guys are a classy cast of characters as well. Oh, forget it! The-more-the-marrier... But they get to come play CWU at home next season if they do!

Wouldn't Boise State be a longer drive for you guys?

No... 2 hours further to Bozeman than Boise, 6 hours vs. 8 hours

yeah and then try like 13 or something ridiculous for us. If they do come, i think we should work on setting up the old PNCLL West and East, would make for a lot easier and safer drives for a lot of teams.

It does change your geographic extremes.... Oregon, SFU, Boise, but that still probably isn't enough teams in our A to do 2 divisions. In the past I've seen suggestions about travel to help out, for instance: '06 Boise @ Oregon, '07 Boise v Oregon Neutral, '08 Oregon @ Boise. If you went neutral again, you'd travel every 4th year. We may have done it with Montana in the past, but things always came up and it never happened.

It's also my understanding, and I could be wrong here, but we're not to discriminate against teams because of Geographic location. Travel isn't supposed to be a worthy excuse, and I'm still curious of all the dealings that lead to Boise St. being forced into the RMLC B. Before I would vote them in I'd probably have to hear their story, and the story from the RMLC BOD. There had to be a reason, and we don't necessarily want to have to deal with that either. The more the better don't get me wrong, but we don't want the league moving backwards. Two b teams we have were hit and miss a before, one even missed the AGM one year fairly recently and was kicked out the league, but now are some of the top teams in the country with only upside coming in their programs. I'd rather not admit a problem team and have to deal with the problems we've had on our recent past; teams not getting paperwork filled out with their university and losing club status, not having enough players, refusing to come to the playoffs because they were going to lose, missing AGMs, having their coach steal their fundraising money, etc.

I'm not trying to accuse BSU of anything, I'd love our league to grow (even the A), and I love the city of Boise. I don't know a ton about their program, only what I experienced playing them this last Spring Break, but I'd want to know all the facts before they were voted in/out of the league.

Being from Boise originally, but playing for a school away from BSU, I've come to realize the ups and downs of BSU.

Up: Boise's lacrosse community is booming. There are 10 high school teams in the Boise area now, and 16 in the state of Idaho. In the near future, there will be 20+. This will only help BSU's talent level, as these last couple of years have been the first that the team has been made up of formerly area high school players.

Down: Traditionally BSU has been somewhat of a "bully" team. A few years back when they were first starting, it looked like they were going in the right direction, winning the RMLC B when it was still the RMILL, and making it to the championship game two or three years in a row. However, they have never accomplished much in A, and I believe it is because when they moved up, they adopted a different mindset. They now seem to rely on hitting and intimidation, which gives them W's against division B squads, but rarely against significant opponents.

Do I think this will change eventually? Yes. Their offense already has some formidable attackmen these days who can score goals, and their defensive stick skills are ten times what they used to be, which will lead to more of a focus on playing the game with more finess. However, I would not be surprised if this lack of W's in the larger division is what forced them to move down to B this last season. Teams like BYU, CSU, and CU probably did not want to have to drive all the way up to Boise (something like a 13 hour drive for the Colorado schools), through possible snow and ice, to pick up a 20 goal victory that was decided before the opening whistle.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't have any hard feelings against Boise State. I can understand why in a league that was so tightly packed with talent (Utah, BYU, CSU, CU), they would resort to a more physical style of play. I think that their success will be more abundant in the PNCLL A as opposed to the RMLC A, and thus their physical style will calm down a bit. I'm simply trying to offer a possible explanation as to what happened, and tell you what I know about the Broncos and their past.

They probably will have more success in the PNCLL than the RMLC, but the beatings will still continue (Oregon/SFU are still top 25 caliber teams). And the fact still remains, taking a beating is not a reason to jump conferences. To me, immediate success isn't even a valid reason to move conferences. If that was the barometer, the only teams allowed to join the RMLC A in the future would be Sonoma or UCSB.

We all want to win, and Boise wouldn't even be in my current Division, but Geography should probably be the main concern. Currently our A essentially resides on the I-5 corridor. For just about every team in our A, Chico and Stanford are probably a bit closer. I'm really just trying to picture the PNCLL with Boise as a part of it.

I'm not really against them joining the PNCLL, just a bit hesitant, and present a part of the other side of the arguement.

Though I realize I was quick to post on this topic, I think that we should all try and keep an open mind toward the idea of accepting BSU into our league. We should hear them out, then weigh things up and vote- with all of the facts in hand.

Remember, the B conference is more stretched out than the A conference. We all make big travel arrangements. In the B East, the closest teams are CWU and Whitman who are 3 hours apart, then ACI, then Montana...

When PLU went to Boise state for our OOC games this past season, we were able to play UVSC as well.

If Boise State were accepted to the PNCLL, would it still be feasble for teams that come to Idaho to get two games in a weekend like this year?
If they join, could they serve as a neutral destination for the PNCLL/RMLL match ups? RMLL would seem closer, but they would be coming to PNCLL territory.

Imagining that, I can see that would take a lot of scheduling genius for the Boise St. coaches and a very tough, very full schedule.

Could it happen? Would Boise St. allow the PNCLL to use the blue turf (or that OTHER field) as a launch pad? I hope so because I really want to play Colorado School of the Mines and UVSC again!

BSU can do whatever they want if they're in the PNCLL or not. Usually working out a neutral OOC location is not that tough, I doubt you guys would have a problem with it.

To all who have posted concerning Boise State's petition to join the PNCLL:

Boise State has its reasons for wanting to leave the RMLC, all of which will not be discussed here on the message board, but at the PNCLL fall meeting.

Boise State hosted a couple of neutral site games last year, and would be more than willing to do so in the future. The city of Boise is geographically near the center between most of the PNCLL and RMLC teams. If you are interested in playing a team in the RMLC or the PNCLL and want to meet that team in Boise, contact that team and us and we'll approach each situation and see if it will work.

Let me say this to the PNCLL, we are not trying to join your league to cause it to "step backward." I can appreciate the concern, as our team really hasn't accomplished that much at the Division A level. However, our team has been taking "steps forward" in our program over that last two years, with this upcoming season having a very good outlook for us in both the talent and commitment levels.

Our coaching staff and club president will be at the PNCLL Fall Meeting to present our case and do our best to convince evey team involved that Boise State becoming a part of the PNCLL would be a good thing. We have great facilities (two fields, medical staff, lockerooms) and five MDIA certified officials in the area. Albertson's College is thirty minutes away which can almost guarentee two games for any teams coming to Caldwell to play ACI.

I hope that all parties involved will keep an open mind come the fall meeting.

James,

Good luck with your move. Before the USLIA/MDIA started, we had to go convince the RMILL that BYU would be a good member of the conference. Mostly, no one wanted to travel to Utah to play us. We were on probabtion for 2 years, had no home games, etc., etc., etc. I would like to think that having BYU as a member has worked out well for the (now) RMLC. If you are accepted, I hope you guys fare well in the PNCLL.
