Just got back from Cal-USC. Cal won 6 or 7 to 3. Both teams looked a little rusty at times for it being first games of the year. Both goalies looked good, with Cal's coming up with some nice saves. #7 for USC impressed me the most but the team sort of lacks on offense, sort of stand around and wait for someone to try and take his man.

I am no Dave Adams but here are some pics from the game:

Cal vs. USC

FINAL

Cal 6

USC 3

A dissappointing way to start the season with the offense playing as terribly as they did today. Defense played solid with a tremendous game by our goalie. The transition killed us as we gave up a couple goals due to errant passes. A better showing by the offensive unit would have resulted in a much different game. It's frustrating to see them play well all week and then not put anything together on game day.

Cal played pretty well, their keeper was extraordinary today. I would say their defense is their strength and their attack is their weakest area. They are an improved team over last year and are a classy group of guys. Thanks to them for making the trip down.

LMU vs Pepperdine

LMU beats Pepperdine 9-8

The LMU Lions sneak by the Pepperdine Waves 9-8 in the season opener for both teams. The young Lion squad was led by Freshmen Joe Picha, James Hinkamp, and Brian Minkler who all had 2 goals each. Also adding 2 goals was senior, Devin Penhall. the Lions offense showcased their explosive offense with 33 shots on goal. The young defense also proved to be too much for the Pepperdine offense. Led by sophmore poles Jason Hale and James Kaen, junior pole, Dan Kelly; they held the waves to only 22 shots. While sophomore goalie, Luga Podesta, only allowing 8 to get through. I'm liking the Warrior Viking helmets on the Lions. Obviously the loss of Jon Wiley is evident in that LMU had a difficult time against a Division B team.

Come on buddy. I am sorry, but lets not make an underhanded comment about B teams just because they "happened" to play well. Last season with Wiley (and others) LMU was taken to an overtime game with the DIVISION B Claremont Cougars, and also a fairly close game against Pepperdine as well. It's not a mistake that a team like Pepperdine came out and gave LMU a great game. Recognize it, let it go... do whatever, but give credit where credit is due.

Such a comment a browns fan would make, thus forcing me to change my avatar right away.
