Eugene, OR - For the University of Oregon Men’s Lacrosse Club, the 2013 MCLA season was marked by several close games and an increase in camaraderie amongst the players on the team. Led by head coach Phillip Keebler and a handful of determined seniors, the Ducks left the MCLA National Tournament with an overall 6th ranking after a hard-fought loss to BYU in the quarterfinals.
The night prior, Oregon had faced Chapman in an opening round matchup that finished in four exhilarating overtime periods. Despite a small roster size and an abundance of underclassmen, the close-knit Ducks squad exercised its superb conditioning and electrifying chemistry throughout the entirety of the 7-6 grinder. Junior middie Evan Meritt sealed the win for the Ducks with unassisted dodge-and-shoot goal.
Shortly following Oregon’s final game, Coach Keebler officially resigned as head coach and accepted a marketing job in Northern California in order to pursue long-term career goals. The Club thanks Coach Keebler for his time, effort, and ability to inspire his team to perform beyond their tested limits. The Ducks wish him luck and are confident that he will find success in all future endevors.
Oregon is proud to announce Justin Eckenroad as their new head coach for the 2013-14 season. Coach Eckenroad is an UO alum and played attack and midfield for the Ducks from 2008 to 2011. Most recently, he spent two successful seasons coaching at Western Oregon University before returning to his alma mater. The Ducks believe that Coach Eckenroad’s strong sense of focus and familiarity with the program will generate success in seasons to come.
