Good news, bad news

Good news: They've added two weeks to the spring MSHSL boys lacrosse season.

Bad news: They've upped the number of games from 12 to 13, which runs counter to the idea of giving teams enough time to schedule and play their games without having to play 3-4 games per week (after rescheduling).

It's not awful, but it's already going to be hard enough to cover the games with officials with all of the new teams we get each year without teams playing 13 games. Keeping it at 12 games and adding those two weeks would have been perfect.

I renew my call for former college players to become officials! You guys are our best shot for developing good new officials quickly.

I agree with LaxRef on this one.

I worked a difficult game last night with one new official on my 3-man crew. He is a former UMLL player who did a little HS coaching as well. He had a good understanding of what was and was not a foul and made calls accordingly. He also did a good job of getting into proper position to make his calls.

If I had had another, less experienced, official who was coming to the game from outside the sport, I'm not confident we would have maintained control over the game as well as we did.

Seriously consider it guys.

Additionally, it will be interesting to see how the MSHSL and MBSLA work their playoffs since they'll now probably overlap.
