Eligibility question

What would the ruling be about eligibility concerning this scenario:

A senior needs 120 hours to graduate. Their second semester senior year, they have 114 credit hours. Not wanting to spend unnecessary money on tuition, they take only 6 credit hours.

Could this student be eligible since they are going to graduate in the fall?

eligible for spring or fall? cause there really are no rules on who can play in the fall, but if they wanted to play in the spring they would at least have to be taking some class in the spring. If they took the fall off of school and then took the 6 credits in the spring i believe they would be eligible to play the spring season. I am not completely sure on the rules but that is how i am interpreted them

Not necessarily. Im asking for my personal situation for next year

After a full first semester, I will only need a few classes in the spring to graduate, less than 12. I want to play in the Spring, but I don't want to pay thousands of extra dollars in tuition for BS classes, just so I can take 12 hours. Could I be eligible due to the fact I'm going to be graduating in the Spring?

A senior in his graduating semester can take less than 12 credit hours and still be eligible provided he is taking the credits/classes needed to graduate.

Just to let you know this may require additional information beyond the normal MCLA certification form, depending on how thoroughly your registrar does the certification. I had an exempt senior this past spring and it took additional work to prove his eligibility.

The senior exemption is stated on the MCLA form; however, some registars, including the one at M S&T, only address the question of players being full time (12 credits) students. Doug Karl indicated he would accept documents such as a graduation application or a letter from the department chairman or appropriate dean as proof a student is a graduating senior. You may want to inquire with your registrar as to what they will certify and have backup information ready to prevent any delay in your certification.
