I'm curious as to how the divisional games count to the record of the team. I've always assumed all games in division count in the division record but i've been noticing that not all of them do. For example, CCSU only got credit for one of their wins against coast guard, the other was counted in overall record. (so they have 3 division wins, and 4 overall)

I know i noticed it for other teams too but i can't remember specifics off the top of my head.

Anybody have an answer??

If two teams play more than one divisional game against each other, only the first game counts in the standings.

What was the reasoning for this? What's the point of playing the second game then? If you won the first, it can only hurt you when you play the same team again.

my guess for why only the first would count would be to keep all the teams in the division playing the same number of games against each other. makes seeding for the playoffs easier.

i guess a team would play a team twice to increase the number of games a team plays in a season without greatly increasing your budget. if you start looking at teams out of division, my guess is they are further away, making buses more expensive, chance at a hotel, etc. its probably cheaper to do a home and home with a close divisional opponent.

I second that, that's why I asked in the first place.

It's done that way to ensure an equal strength of schedule for every team in the league.

The point of playing the second game is just that - to play another game. It still counts for stats and bragging rights, but to avoid confusion it doesn't count when it comes to playoff seeding.

This started a few years back. The Div B teams needed a minimum number of games to be played against each other, but to force all of them to play each other twice, would've cost the teams alot of money (especially when Rochester was in the league). It's something that hasn't been discussed the last two years at the league meeting, but as the teams are more organized now, maybe it will be a topic of conversation.

I believe that teams this year scheduled teh second game, as a way to get more games in.
