Washington vs Georgia High School Games

Issaquah H.S. from Washington State completed a 3-0 trip down to Georgia this past weekend with an 8-7 overtime win over Lassiter HS. Earlier on the trip Issy knocked off McIntosh 13-5 and Alpharetta 11-7.

Anybody down there in the SELC attend any of these games and have a report to post? I'd be interested to read some first-hand spectator comments. The Huskies have four alums from Issaquah on our roster -- Nick Tierney, Chris Hutchinson, Matt Robson and Harrison Shoff, all from the IHS Class of '05.

Sonny, did you ref any of these games?

Okay, great. Care to share any thoughts and impressions on what you saw?

Yes.

I saw the Lassiter game, only. I did not see the first half of the game due to an alumni game that was far more intense than anyone could have envisioned.

Issaquah looked VERY disciplined and well-coached. Never got chippy/feisty against a very physical/aggressive Lassiter team. The team seemed to have a good bit of game knowledge. Both teams seemed to lack "fire" on settled play and found most of the "urge" on broken/transitional play.

Issaquah's defense looked pretty average, didn't see many slides. Offensively they made VERY good shots/decisions and didn't see an abundance of bad shots/forced-passes.

Issaquah was on EMO a lot at the end of the game and seemed to make the extra pass several times. Did that same on even play, also. Always seemed to have backed up shots.

Had Carter (Lassiter attackman) shot gotten off a half second earlier as time expired in the 4th...there would have been no overtime.

They weren't the biggest, strongest, fastest team in the world...but they were very smart, disciplined and well-coached and seemed to have decent fundamentals.

I didn't do any of the games, but heard only positive, 2nd hand reports on Issaquah's talent level.

It was an odd time for these games in Georgia as all of the public schools were on Spring Break. The Issaquah win over Alpharetta was AHS's first loss of the season.

Thanks, guys. Game reports here are tough to come by. The Issy-Alpharetta game matched two teams with identical 12-0 records.

Issaquah made the semi-finals in Washington last year, but look to be #2 this season behind defending champ and #1 Bainbridge Island. Bainbridge has only lost to St. Ignatius (CA) and to Arapahoe (CO) in 2008 (Man these high schools are really scheduling some big OOC trips!).

The Issaquah-Bainbridge game in two weeks will match the IHS team you saw, which has great midfield offense, against a Bainbridge team which has a simply filthy defense. That should be a great game and a potential preview of our Washington State High School championships to follow later this Spring.

I also don't want to start rumors... I guess I have now... but I think we should start testing our photographers for HGH. The man in question has clearly bulked up since his weight of 74 last year!
:o
