Early Spring in MN

Postby Frank Clark on Mon Mar 31, 2008 3:37 pm

So I noticed that most if not all domes are down in the twin cities yet the snow is flying this week. 8" today and sounds like more to follow on Wed. night. Will this have an impact on this weekends games?
Turf might still be able to be cleared off but the grass will probably be a mess.

Seriously, I don't quite understand why we all continue to choose to live here! :)

Fortunately for us we have artificial turf and it is supposed to be in the 40's so it should be decent in Milwaukee. I don't know what it will be like at Steven's Point though.

It is supposed to be 50 by Saturday

It can't be any worse than the National Tournement in Blaine.

I am going to the Mount St. Mary at Georgetown game tomorrow. I am expecting heavy rain. I think it might have an impact on that.

I am going to Yankee Stadium on Friday, and I am expecting there to be more rain.

Weather always affects a game.

Host teams should be asking whoever is the "gatekeeper" to their grass fields about when they will be able to give the "go/no go" call on field usage.

I am most concerned about Mankato's and Carleton's fields. Most other games are scheduled for indoor/turf fields, or have host teams with access to turf fields.

Mankato and Carleton should start this process of obtaining committment to field acces tomorrow if they've not started already.

Mankato has already begun the search for alternative fields in the area. We already have one site in mind that will work that is not more then 5 minutes from campus and is easy to find for visiting teams just of Highway 169.

I also have just got in contact with the AD at Gustavus Adolphus College to see if their turf field could be rented. No one wants to play on a horrible field so I think this would be a better option for all teams involved.

Are we going to be charged a fine if we have to change times and locations to accomodate needs? And if there is a fee to get the turf field would we have to contact all of the teams involved and see if they wer willing to pay as well of are we responsible as the host of the tourny?

Carleton's fields are on a hill. They are not on the top of the hill, but they are still above most of the land. I remember the fields drying quite well in the past.

Marquette has a turf field and will make sure that their "gatekeeper" allows for field usage. It may be still wet, but ought to be clear.

Weather in Milwaukee is calling for mid to upper 40s both Friday and Saturday after possible snowfall on Thursday night.

Perhaps the lacrosse gods are looking out for Milwaukee. As of Tuesday am, here is the weather report for the rest of the week.

UMD may be able to host if there is a field issue. Dosent sound like grass fields (or lack of grass) are a great option.

The temperature in Mankato today is around 34 and very sunny, the snow has begun to melt at a fast pace. But no grass is showing through yet, as long as the sun stays out and temps in the 40's the ground may be ready to go by saturday.

Weather

Postby Reilly on Tue Apr 01, 2008 1:30 pm

Looks like it is going to be 50 on Wednesday and Thursday in St Paul, so we should be good to go on the turf at UST this weekend... I know the catholic school boys (UST and SJU) will be saying extra prayers for a big melt for this weekend!!!!
Looks like we are going to have to reschedule our tilt with Augsburg on Wednesday.

So do you think the fields in kato will be dry and have approval to play on?
How realistic is turf down there?
