I apologize for the late notice but the UMLOA (Upper Midwest Lacrosse Officials Association) is holding training for new and returning high school officials next week.
There is an ever increasing need for officials as the number of boys' high school teams increases every year.
Training will be held at the Kaplan Test Center in St. Paul on Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30 (you need attend only one of the two sessions).
Directions and information are available at
http://www.mn-lacrosse.com/officials_mens.html
The high school season runs from April 11 through June 11. You can work all or part of the season and 0-6 games per week. Officials are paid $60/game for varsity level and $40/game for JV. Most assignments include both a varsity and JV game (if you can make the JV game).
Feel free to contact me at umloa@mjd.mailshell.com if you have any questions.

Fellas,
This is an excellent way to give back to the game. I'm sure that if you undergo training, you can ref after the college season is over. Great way to get a jumpstart on next year's dues I'll be donning my stripes right after the MDIA Championships.
Graduates,
Officiating is among the best ways to keep in touch with the game.
Without the help of recent graduates and current players in the officiating area, high school lacrosse will cease to grow and that will be a disservice to all our teams.

Will there be anymore training sessions that don't fall in the middle of the week in the future? Or is this it for the 2005 year???

Derek,
I'm lobbying for a special training session just for you on the evening of April 16th.

Chris,
It is my understanding that UofM plays Duluth on the evening of April 16th. My guess is Derek might be playing so he could not make it to the session anyways.

More training sessions

We would certainly consider adding a session perhaps after most colleges have finished classes.
There is one more training session scheduled for April 17 in Bloomington from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. I don't have an exact location yet since it will depend upon the number of attendees. I will make sure to post information here when I have it.
If we a reasonable number of college players interested (say 5 or so), I would be more than willing to set something up. Feel free to suggest a date.

Dempsey,
Not that I'm interested in joining team zebra, though you guys look pretty cool working the swarm games, but where is the April 17th session going to be held in Bloomington?

Sorry for the slow reply... Too many high school games to assign and officiate.
The April 17 training will be held at Creekside Center in Bloomington. It is located on the corner of 98th Street and Penn Ave S. You can get there either by taking 494 to Penn then south to 98th or take 35W to 98th Street and go west to Penn.
The training is scheduled for 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Please join us if you are interested.
