Good luck to those teams playing some NCAA Division III teams this weekend. Also, I see Drury is playing some GRLC teams this year. Can anyone fill me in on them?

Drury came to the fall meeting just to sit in on the process, introduce themselves as a team that plans to apply to the league NEXT year, and get games schedules. I believe they set up 7 games for the spring.

For those who have seen them play, how did Drury look?

They only played 1 game so far, against Missouri State. They had 13 guys play and looked exactly like you'd expect a first year, first game team to look. They did have a couple guys with some skills but were primarily on defense most of the game. As far as organization on the field, their coach seemed to have things under control. He said that he was trying out different line ups and really wanted to just use this as a measuring stick for the immediate steps they need to take to improve. They had the basics down on the field.
They were missing 5 players due to previous obligations (they have an 18 man roster). They host their first home game this Thursday vs. MO Baptist then they play Mizzou on Friday @ Mizzou I believe.

I've been told Cazenovia walked off the field at the beginning of the 4th with the lead. What happened at that game, Beckner?

They were leading 8-5 in the first few minutes of the 4th. They called a timeout and just as they did so one of the other officials saw that they were offsides so he flagged them for it (which ended up just being a loss possession) During his time out he had a meeting with us which consisted of him arguing about the call the whole time. He wanted the time out to supersede (sp?) the violation. When the time out broke and his team took the field he pulled them right off again and said they weren't going to play anymore. The players from both teams wanted to keep going, and the Caz coach didn't want his team to shake hands either (but they did it themselves anyway.)

He was a very young coach who I'd assume is inexperienced in a coaching role. Just like every other coach out there, he knew the rules better than the officials

So now I'll ask, would this then be considered a forfeit according to rules??

Cazenovia game

Aside from what the official ruling of the game is going to be, it's disappointing to hear of this kind of result.

Without knowing the particulars and being there, I can't comment on why the coach did what he did. But, that said, I believe you need to honor the game and finish it.

If anyone knows more, I'd like to know. Feel free to PM me or e-mail if you don't want to post.

From Springfield:
MO Baptist 19
Drury 2

First home lacrosse game, about 30 people there screaming and chanting. Although the score doesn't show it, Drury has already made some excellent improvements in their game. MO Bap still vastly controlled time of possession in the battle of the rookie programs! With just 12 guys for MB they play a very controlled and clean game. I'm very impressed with their skills!

I mean, wow. Just plain old wow. At least we can look at this as an example that the MCLA has grown in such a way, that our class and commitment to the sport has now officially superseded that of some NCAA programs....

Now I wasn't there, I've just read to blurbs about it, but based on what Beckner said, I would assume, "As a coach", that the TO was called because he saw the Offsides before the refs did. The TO call may have alerted the refs. If that's the case, the offsides was called. I guess it depends on when the TO was called I guess. Either way, you can't disgrace your team or disrespect the game by walking off of the field in the 4th because of a bad call. I mean, non of us would ever finish a game then.... :)

Not that this should serve as ANY excuse, but maybe it was all the reason the coach needed to walk off the field for Cazanovia. Despite being three games deep into their season, they have the Ark game listed as
Fri. 3/14 Univ. of Arkansas (Scrimmage)* 12:00 p.m.

To him, maybe it meant nothing, even though it mean a lot to the Razorbacks....
Just a thought.... Did Ark know it was a "scrimmage game?"

Well, I'd take the word scrimmage one of 2 ways...1) Controlled, situational practice against another team, 2) A game that has no bearing on any standings, stats, records, etc. but is still played like any other game.

Arkansas planned on playing a full game against Caz. I'll assume Cazenovia listed it as scrimmage due to the fact that UofA is a non-NCAA team.

"2) A game that has no bearing on any standings, stats, records, etc. but is still played like any other game. "

That's the point I was trying to make. 2 or three games into the season, would lend one to think it's the latter of the two. Either way, bad form.
