MLL & NLL Pros in the MCLA- Specifically the GRLC....

Postby The_Buddha_Man on Wed Feb 27, 2008 3:47 pm

I am noticing a lot of familiar names, and titles of coaches around our league with current (or in my case, past) ties to the MLL and NLL. We have Indiana & Illinois, Stanford I believe, UCSB maybe, Creighton, and a few others with coaches who have played at the highest level this sport has to offer. I think that is amazing, especially when it comes to the GRLC, where generally lacrosse growth is still in its infancy as far as growth.

To see the profiles and dedication many of these coaches add to the MCLA truly exemplifies the traditional Mantra of "Lacrosse isn't just a sport, it's a lifestyle...." I know when I first moved out here from the NYC area I was afraid there wouldn't be any lax. It's a thing a beauty to be playing in places an East Coast laxer would never have had the opportunity to, like the Dakotas, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, etc.

Give thanks to all of your coaches, because for most of us, this is volunteered time we hate to take from our families, but love to give to you guys in return...

In conclusion, I know I am missing a couple of coaches with stints in the pros. Anyone know who I missed or even mis represented?

i think just the growth of mll and nll in general will generate more "elite" athletes to our lower ranks. i know specifically in the nw we have had many mcla stars go on to play for the lumberjacks while also coaching there old high schools and or helping there college teams out. give it another 5- 10 years and it won't be out of the ordinary to have a head coach at the high school level or college level that does or has played professionally in some capacity.

Thanks. Malone and Streibel were the ones I knew I was forgetting. Aren't there also 3 or 4 MCLA teams in Calif with some?

Also for the record, to quote primetime21, "will generate more "elite" atheletes to our lower ranks", did I mean to imply or suggest that MCLA lacrosse is subordinate in any way to anyone else. Lax is lax, and for us old guys, the limping only gets worse..... :) :?

by no mean did i mean to say that mcla is subordinate. from a publicity point, yes it is, from an overall sports look, no. what i really meant was the high school level and appropriate upstart college teams. for ex. i think montana in has or had a D1 goalie from florida i think, on their coaching staff when they were rebuilding into a national power. i just think that more and more athletes that are graduating from mcla programs are good enough and do go pro only to go back to their alma mater and either help or take over the program.

I totally agree That was the point I was trying to make. With more than 3 generations of active laxers the sky's the limit....
