that is the pocket that started the crackdown on illegal sticks. that picture was on a NCAA championship promo material / article and caught the eye of a lot of lax purists.

And if you look at the construction, specifically down at the throat, you can clearly see how it is strung so that the pocket at the throat can be pulled in with a pull string on the tie-off at the throat to make the stick legal for stick checks.

That pocket is almost as deep as my goalie stick. You could fit a whole role of quarters through there.
About the posted pictures, It isnt just because they dont have their thumb on the ball, it is because just like CodyLax3 said who carries their stick like that anyways?
It is just fun to see what other people get caught doing infront of the camera.
