Great team effort today, I am so proud of my guys for coming out and playing a great game and putting a season together.

WOU 7
UPS 3
Heard it was a very sloppy game, UPS had many EMO's but did not convert. Blame Mark Brown if this information is wrong

lots of loose balls, some bad scooping, uncaught or inaccurate passes causing several turnovers. it was sloppy in that sense but still a really good game to be at

Is Washington out of it?
Are the Huskies eliminated from the tournament since they lost again today? Or can they win out and still get 4th?

I do believe if the Huskies win out vs. Idaho and WSU, they are guaranteed a trip to the Final Four. If Montana defeats BSU, then it will look like this:
1. SFU
2. Oregon
3. Montana
4. UW
1. SFU
2. Oregon
3. Montana
4. UW

If UPS can take care of PLU, and WOU can handle two more tough games in Willamette and Whitman, then UPS and Western Oregon will secure the coveted byes straight to the final four in the D2 playoffs. WOU would be the #1, and UPS the #2 - both teams suffering only one loss in league play this year.
Actually, if UPS loses to PLU I think they still get the bye - they hold the tie-breakers with CWU and WWU. . .
WOU has the tiebreaker with WWU if they drop one, but if CWU wins out and WOU drops one CWU could still get the bye.

I did make the trip from Ashland to West Salem to watch this game. I believe that both teams can play much better than they did today...but I'm a coach and that's what we always think.
Blair played very solid for WOU in the goal and the WOU ride made it hard for UPS to clear. I'm very interested to hear both coaches take on the game.

Our rides & defense were both executed very well, with special props to Blair with a huge # of saves between the pipes today. Our offensive possessions weren't as efficient as they have been in prior games & our ground ball play we less than desired. All around, we played with a lot of heart today & came out and did what we planned on doing which was win a tough game. Great job to both teams for a tough battle today.

Just for clarification, I wasn't at all meaning to disparage either team with my comment. I was simply seeking to make a quick description and "sloppy" probably wasn't the right way to describe it in hindsight. From all that I heard defense dominated and neither team was near its average offensive output. So don't blame Mark, blame me, my words.
Either way huge win for WOU, congrats.

actually Will I believe that sloppy is a description that you would hear from both coaches today. I am sure that Kyle can't be too happy with the fact that UPS did indeed have quite a bit of man-up opportunities that were one dropped pass away from getting a good shot. On our end we threw away the ball more times than I think I have ever seen in a game I played in. We had an incredible amount turnovers, and I know that from our end we know that the way we played today is not going to cut it in Missoula if we make it. So don't feel bad Will. Sloppy is about as accurate of term as undisciplined in our team's case. On a good note, congratulations on your win over PLU. Having seen some of the plays that PLU made on saturday I know that you guys must have played well to pull out a win.
The true test of a player's character is not how he wins, but how he loses.

I'd use sloppy... Now please keep this in mind, I'm not trying to take anything away from WOU with my comments going forward, they outplayed us & KEPT us from playing our game. They deserved the win & are a very good team, I have nothing bad to say about them. I still believe they in the very least deserve their #12 ranking.
It was about 2 minutes into the game when I leaned to my assistant coach & said, "We're both ranked in the top 15... actually, we're both ranked..." The ball was on the ground, it was ugly. The game picked up, the jiggers wore away, but WOU took over the game. We've won the ground in nearly every game we've played this year, but yesterday, we had to have lost the ground about 4-1. We didn't scoop anything cleanly & if we did, we immediately hit a double team or couldn't even manage to get the ball out of the pressure. WOU was tenacious in their unsettled ride & I think that demoralized us right from the start. Personally, I wasn't ecstatic with our defensive play, although, WOU dominated possession & we only allowed 7... It's hard to be too displeased with the result, just seemed as though we allowed to many good looks that could have been avoided. Thankfully Wilbur was great between the pipes. We played tired & didn't work well together on offense. Going back, there are a lot of things I'd do differently in preparing for the game. Quite frankly, with the players I have on offense, for the game plan to net 3 goals is pathetic & that's on me. We just didn't have it yesterday, EMO was suspect at best, & WOU showed a ton of heart & wanted it more than we did.
It's a good wake up call for Missoula & a game we needed to get back into the swing of things. Hopefully we can get back to playing the lax that won us tough games & we'll get another shot in Montana.

I also would agree that "sloppy" is a very accurate term to describe our play. I would agree with Josh in saying that we turned the ball over more times than i have seen in quite a while. I feel that even tho we were able to capture a very important win, this was as Kyle said, a wakeup call for us as well for what needs to definitely be improved upon if we want to make a statement in (hopefully) Missoula.
