2007 SELC Alumni Tournament SET

Postby Vols2 on Thu May 24, 2007 8:18 am

So 6 weeks out and it would appear we have the following:

GT
UT
UF
Auburn
Clemson (maybe?)
UGA (?? or are they piggybacking with GT once again?)

So assuming there are 6 teams that actually show up on Saturday, which is a pretty big assumption, how would the schedule look? Still 3 games on Saturday, or would we up it to 4 or 5??

games

Postby Ken Lovic on Thu May 24, 2007 4:11 pm

no more than 3 IMO. It gets hot and guys get tired. If we played 4-5 the day would literally be close to 8-10 hours long. I do not recall the games after 3 being all that great from a few years back when we did 4.
Besides- get your priorities staright as an alum my young gator. there is much consuming to be had!!

UCF is about 95% on filling the roster. Expect us there as well.

Or perhaps shorten the games. I would much rather play 4-5 30 minute games against all of the teams than 3 long ones. Then bracket it up on Sunday.

I agree with Oaks. I'd rather play half games and be able to play all the teams on Saturday. Sunday could be full games with the tournament setup.

So I had a just a little time on my hands today at work...

If we have 7 teams this year (UT, UF, AU, GT, UGA, Clem, UCF) and we're using only 2 fields and wanted to play each team that 1st day (6 games!)...we would need 11 time periods for games! That would stretch us from roughly starting at 10am to ending by 7pm. Wow that would be a long day.

Ken- what's your suggestion from here with the possibility of all these teams? There's gonna be alot more "down-time" between games for teams with our #'s. I'm assuming we're using the Pantherville fields again? Maybe we should re-locate to Frisco?? :D

schedule

Postby Ken Lovic on Fri Jun 01, 2007 10:39 pm

as anyone will attest to.... I need to see confirmations before we set a schedule. It sounds good now but until I know FORE SURE we see 7.... I will NOT do a everyone play one another format if we have 7 teams. Way too long of day. It all sounds good up front to say "let's have shortened games and play one another" but realistically it does not work. Too much down time and guys gettinig bored... or drunk

Once I know who is coming for sure I will make a schedule everyone is happy with. The idea is to play, not play everyone.
I only have 2 fields.... and alum only have 2 speeds- what they are and what they used to be.

New alumni teams involved. No ringer talk. What has happened to the SELC?
