LSA week 10

playoffs

Postby Karl Lynch on Sun Apr 02, 2006 12:57 am

Be careful Smokey44. Tlaing1 corrected me last year when I jumped the gun on LSU being out of the hunt.

"If SMU is able to get by Baylor tomorrow, it looks like that #3 playoff spot in the North will come down to Friday's game between Karl's boys and SMU."

The final playoff positions for the North Division are anything but set. There are multiple scenarios still to be figured out.

Texas still plays Tech.
Tech still plays Baylor, North Texas and UT.
SMU still plays Baylor and North Texas.
Baylor still plays SMU and Tech.

It could very well be that the #3 spot is anyone of those teams listed above including Texas - that's right it is still mathematically possible for Texas to be the #3 seed.

The only team in the North that will make the playoffs so far is UT and with certain circumstances playing out could be the #3 seed. All the rest of the teams will have to figure it out on the field. Even the dreaded tie breaker criteria may be needed if the "right" wins and losses happen.

Tough game for the Lumberjacks tonight who ran ironman style with only ten guys. I am still kinda at odds with the fact that their coach only used one timeout during the entire game. Props to Southwestern for pulling out the first LSA B division win of the year against SLU. As always it will be a show down in Georgetown next weekend. Have a safe trip back guys and see you next weekend.

Texas State11 TAMU 10. The game was within one or two the entire time. Hard fought game on both sides. Texas State came out to play and wanted it more.

Ok so Tamu beats Texas, only to then lose to TxState ... I can't even begin to start predicting a playoff scenario with all this madness. Good games this weekend!

What would this weekends outcomes mean if we were still on the old playoff system?

Old Playoff system

Postby Karl Lynch on Sun Apr 02, 2006 3:29 pm

Old Playoff or Old Old Playoff? In old old it was top 4 Div A teams in LSA.

But you can't really measure that any more because of scheduling. Now, Div A teams don't have to play cross conference games.

Some of the big games missing to really tell like Tech v. TSU, Tech v. Rice, Tech v. Tulane, A&M v. North Texas, A&M v. Baylor, SMU v. Tulane, SMU v. Rice, etc. don't happen anymore.

To say what the top 4 would be would require lots of assumptions.

The Div. A South is in sharper focus now.

A&M with a 4-1 record is in.
TSU with a 4-0 record with one game remaining w. Tulane is in.
Rice is in the drivers seat with win over Tulane and one game remaining v. Houston. A win and they are in.
Tulane has two games remaining TSU and Houston. A loss to either and Tualne will miss the playoffs. If Tulane wins both, they will have a 3-2 record. If Rice loses to Houston, Rice will have a 2-3 record.

SMU vs. Baylor

Postby SMULaxHC on Sun Apr 02, 2006 3:47 pm

Official from Dallas:

SMU: 15
Baylor: 2

As previously stated in regards to their UNT matchup, Baylor played hard the entire game on a hot Texas afternoon with only two or three subs. Thanks for making the trip, and good luck in the next few weeks.

For LSA Div. B, the top four looks like this:

Southwestern 4-0
St. Eds 5-1
UTA 4-1

Yes #11 for Baylor is only a sophomore. He is a hell of a player! I can only imagine what he will do in the next two years!
